Still on the new vs used car discussion, new isn't bad if you hold onto it long enough. It's ironic how many people, once they get done with their payments (when the ownership cost can really start to drop), decide then to get a new car.

I think if you get to the point where springs, shocks, timing belt, etc need to be replaced, you're probably holding onto it a decent amount of time. It's those that decide they want to have a new car every 2-4 years, without any major issues with the current one, that are definitely losing money.

Agree. I'm still driving my first new car, a 99. I am on the "drive them til they die" plan. cars are way too expensive for me to treat as disposable possessions.

I bought new last time only because the difference between new and used was negligible. Maybe same will be true this time, whenever that is ... no hurry, in case Murphy is listening ...
