See What Earth Looked Like From Space When It Was Ruled By Dinosaurs

"Take a gander at what the Earth looked like at different points in history with this interactive 3D globe.

Ever wonder what the Earth looked like before humans came along and added pollution and man-made destruction to the mix?

The 3D interactive website called Ancient Earth Globe lets you glimpse the world from space during the age of the dinosaurs -- and more. Seeing the Earth at various points in geological history, from 750 million years ago to today, is an eye-opening activity to say the least.

The website allows you to see the entire globe as it slowly rotates, or zoom in to see closer details of land and oceans. There's also an option to remove clouds for an even better look.

Go way back to 150 million years ago for a look at the Earth during the late Jurassic period. At this time the earliest lizards were appearing and primitive mammals were starting to evolve. Dinosaurs also dominated on land....."

Very Cool Website.

Thanks Richard, 50 millions years ago. Amazing video.

One of your best, Richard. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this, Richard. The theory of continental drift always fascinated me as a boy. The shapes and features of the continents seemed to make it logical. However, most geologists and scientists up until the late 1950s were not convinced and sneered at the suggestion. Fortunately, as we became able to explore the ocean floors and then discovered the mid-Atlantic ridge, the theory of plate tectonics gave credence to the mechanism needed to explain continental drift. This finally started to be taught when I was in high school. It is an area that continues to fascinate me today.

I loved the graphics in the link, and got a chuckle from Passepartout's reference to the "Wayback Machine". LOL. You can tell we are of a certain age!! For those that are interested, in the June 2018 issue of National Geographic Magazine they have a two page spread (non-interactive) titled "Future Earth" that also shows the shape of the continents at 200 and 100 million years in the past, plus the present day Earth. It then shows what Earth might look like at 100 and 250 million years into the future. Neat stuff!!
