Hello all,

At waiohai now and looking for suggestions on a good sit down seafood restaurant. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I second Beach House....best restaurant on the island. Get reservation at least 45 min before sunset, and then take your time and enjoy.....it's spectacular. Shoot for a window table, altho it's no guarantee. jme

I would suggest Roy's in the shopping center across the street. It won't have the ambience of Beach House, but the seafood is outstanding.

Agree with both the Beach House and Roys (I prefer Roys for food, Beach House for ambience), also discovered a restaurant at a local swim and tennis club- great food, good prices, nice but not spectacular ambience. Just wish I could remeber the name!!! Keoki's, across form Roys is much less expensive, had an amazing parmesean crusted mahi mahi in lemon caper sauce recently but the food there can be hit or miss. They have a 3 course $20 meal if you get there before 6 pm that is very good. I REALLY dislike Brennecke's although it usually gets good reviews, also very disappointed in the Sheraton when I was there lasyt year.

Sunset reservations will be hard to get on short notice at The Beach House.

There's a new shopping area called Kukui'ula near the main entrance to Poipu,

which has a couple of new restaurants. Was at Waiohai last Oct.

Really liked Josselin's, ie kind of a tapas place, and in fact ate there twice in one week. The tableside sangrias, which is not normally my drink of choice, are great.

Merrimans' was so-so, ie still working out the kinks.

I liked Josselin's a lot more than the Beachhouse, but then again, I went for the food, and not the view.

We happened to walk in to Beach House at Sunset and got a table with no problem. Maybe that was a lucky day!? We enjoyed it very much!

Just to clarify - The Beach House is across the street from the Lawai Beach Resort.

Roy's is in the Poipu Shopping Village at the intersection of Poipu Rd. and Kiahuna Plantation Drive - about 1 1/2 mi. away from the Beach House. This is the older shopping center - not the new Kukui'ula Center.

Beach House was great food and presentation. If you go early you can get a table by the bar and eat the same food - we did not have reservations but did sit at one of those tables but we were there very early.
I thought Tidepools was excellent food down at the Hyatt - better than the Beach house and definitely better than Roy's and Keoki's. I agree that Brenneke's wasn't anything to write home about and a bit pricey at that...have an awesome time! I still can't eat fish here at home since that fish was so good there.....

We had some great fish specials at Keoki's in the Poipu shopping center and, it was considerably more reasonably priced than Roy's. I can't say we were overwhelmed by Roy's the one time we ate there.

We also had a good meal at Steamers (I think that's the name) a short walk down the beach from Waiohia.

The Beach House has a great view.

I thought the food didn't live up to the reputation. Roy's had better fish.

Everyone should go to the Beach House once for dinner. However, we found dinner to be kind of a zoo, with half the restaurant getting up and running outside for photos with the sunset. It just was not a relaxing evening. We now go just for the Li Hing Mui magaritas and pupus on the bar terrace. If you are there at 5PM you can usually get a table, and it is not as crowded and rushed as the dining room.

We were at the Kauai Coast in Kapaa for the first four days of our Waiohai/Kauai Lagoons weeks this month, and I checked Yelp for a place to eat our first night. The Eastside, in Kapaa had excellent reviews and proved to also have excellent seafood. (all always locally caught) We had wanted the ono, but due to the weather they had not been able to get it that night, but the mahi mahi on coconut polenta was absolutely perfect, and my husband's prawns were fine, just not as fine as the mahi mahi. Best I have had, better than Beach House or Roy's. Prawn and scallop spring rolls were amazing and the mango cheesecake couldn't have been better. It is not a "destination" restaurant for view or decor, but the food at dinner is equal to what we have had at The Beach House. It might be a bit less expensive than the Beach House, and has a much more relaxed atmosphere. They had two Hawaiian ladies singing and playing, have music most nights, and most other customers seemed to be local that night.

We meant to go back, but once at Waiohai, never were back in Kapaa with time to eat again. We will go back next time!

Ok. Looking at the eastside across the street (we are at ABC) so going to give it a shot.

+1 to this!

Most overpriced and over-rated seafood in Hawaii!

Nothing comes close to Mama's Fish House on North Shore of Maui or the internationally incomparable Alan Wong's in Honolulu.

I agree with this 100%....The view is great but very disappointed in the food and service. IT comes down to what are you looking for good view or good food value for your money.
