We had heard Sea Oats wasn’t in top shape but decided to try it out anyway. The location is great. We were in unit #207 and had a slight Gulf view from Lanai. It was a two bed, 1 bath converted motel room. Second floor, no elevator but easy one flight of stairs. The Office employees were nice but didn’t seem to know much. Big problem with phone, they had changed the system a month ago but info pack didn’t reflect new system directions. This caused problems with several guests, including us. Office didn’t know what to tell us. The next day we found out when we went to sister property for breakfast (free). A man there knew all about the system and gave us directions and took info over to Sea Oats Office. Had this not come up in the last month with guests not able to use phone? Sure did make me wonder.
My impression when I first walked in was “Uh oh!” The room was worn, not really clean, most things way past replacing. The good thing was a new king size bed in master. It was very comfortable. The pool seemed nice and guests enjoyed it. Also, the Hot tub looked well maintained. I sat at the Chickee Hut in the morning and read. Nice shade. Beach was pretty and many people were wade fishing. The sister property to Sea Oats Beach Club is “Englewood Yacht and Beach Club.” That is where we ate the free breakfast, and it was good. The property looked rough but we didn’t look around. If there was a welcome meeting we didn’t know about it. Most employees were friendly but didn’t volunteer much information.
There are three restaurants within walking distance. “Flounders” “Lock and Key” and “Gulf View Grill.” We ate lunch at the “Gulf View Grill” the food was good and the view was great. We also went to Old Englewood Village to eat at the “Mango Bistro.” We ate breakfast and lunch there on 2 different days. We liked the “Mango Bistro” very much. The whole time we were there (Old Englewood Village), no Merchant opened their shop. I’m sure they will be closed for good soon. Big disappointment.
There are 2 Publix Grocery Stores within 10 minutes of Sea Oats, back on mainland. Also, they have a WalMart on mainland. All are easy to get to.
from Manasota Key (Englewood Beach). There is a “Beach Shop” close to Sea Oats Beach Club but that’s about it for any surf shops or local beach shopping.
Nice location, nice beach, quiet area, not so good accommodations, we won’t be back.
We came home early. I grew up in Florida and have been to some really nice places, this wasn't one.
