In another thread the subject of school calendars came up. I thought it deserved its own thread. Here's what we have so far:

Keep in mind that school vacation weeks are generally more desirable.

I have a bookmark for the regular TS weeks calendar. http://keysy.com/calendar/

Is there one that indicates what the school vacation weeks are?

And just a note to those that are not aware:

These week numbers are not standard across all resorts. For example, I found that week numbers are not even the same across all Marriott resorts on HHI. (Probably due to the fact that some resorts were not started as Marriott resorts, but not sure of that.)

So check your "official" calendar for the resorts in question....

Good to know. I mostly use it as a general guide when TS ad browsing on eBay etc. Meanwhile, if you don't have kids, how are you supposed to know what school holidays to reserve (at your home resort to make the best trader) or avoid (if you don't want to stay in a resort full of kids)? :)

I'm anxious to here responses to that.... As school spring breaks & holidays vary for a given year, in my experience. Are we really talking about a range of weeks here? Thx

Hmm, I think we're veering away from the original subject of this thread. I'm going to make a new one about school calendars.

So, like I said above: if you don't have kids, how are you supposed to know what school holidays to reserve (at your home resort to make the best trader) or avoid (if you don't want to stay in a resort full of kids)?

If you have links or advice regarding school vacation schedules please post. It would be great to have US and non-US calendars as well. And I know some states, like NJ, have other or additional school vacation time as well.

If there is already a thread regarding this, moderator please feel free to merge this into it, but I couldn't find one when I searched.

:)

The vast majority of Schools in Ontario Canada and, as I understand it, some of other Canadian provinces as well, have March break during the third week of March. For 2009 that is March 14 to 22 (Week 11 on a Starwood calendar). A good number of those schools also schedule a PA day on the Friday before the March break. This gives those travelling a one day jump on the weekend rush to get out. The Christmas break is for two weeks from the first Monday before Christmas to the first Monday after New Years. As Xmas falls on a Friday in 2009 that would put most Canadian kids on vacation from December 19 to January 3 (School starting Jan 4). For Canadians in particular March break is a major vacation time for those who want to travel south for some much needed sun. Of course for that week and one week before and after the cost for a flight to southern destinations such as Florida the Caribbean or Mexico on Canadian carriers effectively doubles.

San Diego Unified(traditional), Carlsbad, San Dieguieto: April 4-12.

San Marcos: April 9 - 19

San Diego Unified (year round) April 4-May3!!

There is a sticky at the top of the Lounge Board listing Spring Break Dates, that Dave M compiles every year.

A gentle reminder - TUG rules prohibit duplicate posts. If you really think something deserves it's own thread, ask a Mod to make it into two threads, instead of duplicating the posts.

Sorry! Of course anything I would have thought of, Dave M has already compiled a clear, concise sticky on it!!

I'll do the 2010 Spring break list (state-by-state) in early March. It's pointless to do it now because so few school districts have firmed up their 2009-2010 calendars. However, if you look at the 2009 sticky that Denise guided you to and adjust for the change in the date for Easter (a week earlier in 2010), you'll have a great guide for the most likely busy Spring break weeks in 2010.

Thanks guys, I did search, but I guess I didn't use the same terms. :wall:

However, isn't the Lounge the off-topic chat area of TUG? I would think knowing the spring break weeks would be appropriate for the Exchange or Travel Info forums. :)

"When is spring break?" is a question asked often on these forums. When asked, the question or a variant thereof is most often posted in the Lounge.
