If I am buying a HGVC deed on resale (ofcourse much smarter buy than retail) and it has say 5000 pts from 2020 and 5000 pts from 2021, which will transfer along. Assume I cannot use them in 2021.
What are my best options to save and use the points? These are not bonus points, just regular annual club points. I know of using RCI and Hilton Honors for conversion. Thanks as always.

Seems one good way to extend points will be:
2020 points- convert to RCI and get another 2yrs to use them
2021 point- save and extend them to 2022. Use them for HGVC resort in 2022
Any opinion on this strategy? Thx

That's the only way to do it.

Any friends / family you can use the 2020 points on as a gift? The points I bought this year came with a bunch of free points from 2020 too and giving several free trips to fam/friends...some without and some with us. Otherwise you laid out the main options - rci for two, honors conversion I think at 20:1 for same year points. I think it’s extremely unlikely HGV will carry over 2020 points again due to covid.

2020 points usually have to be used in 2020 or they expire. Due to covid I thought that 2020 points that were not used were automatically saved to 2021 and listed as saved 2020/21 points. How can these still be listd as 2020 points or am I missing something.

Likely they have been saved or, as you say, why list them. However, they can't be saved into 2022, but "native" 2021 points can. So, one could say "2020 points that have been saved into 2021 plus 2021 native points." Or one could just call them 2020 points since, to me at least, that says the same thing more succinctly. Then again, it seems not all think it;s clear, so maybe the former is better? :)

Cheers.

I agree with you but I am wondering since the original post says "I am buying" I wonder whether the 2020 points have been saved into 2021. Perhaps the ad was written awhile ago and the points were not yet saved at that time, or since the ad was written awhile ago there could there be different situation. I would want to contact HGVC to make sure I knew exactly what I was buying.
