Listen to this...I could not believe it....today at work a call came into the branch(I am in a bank branch). I anwered like I normally do. I noticed that caller ID showed an area code that I was not familiar with. Unfortunately I did not write it down, but it was either coming from area code 213 or else 231. It was a recording trying to sell satellite dish networks. It said to stay on the line and a live operator would come on. I held on because I wanted to tell them this was a bank and to please put us on their do not call list. When the guy answered, I said politely that I wanted to be put on their do not call list and he told me to call this 800 number. I said that they should be able to do it and he repeated himself saying to call this 800 number. So, I wrote it down. I then hung up and proceeded to dial that 800 number and a woman came on saying something about "how good it felt" and a few other things. I almost fell over, I promptly hung up!!! Now, I will probably lose my job because someone will say that I was dialing the porn lines while at work, lol!! I sure do wish that I had remembered to write down that out of area phone number!!

DirecTV?

So, I wrote it down. I then hung up and proceeded to dial that 800 number...

Was this by chance DirecTV? I've had this happen twice. I was calling the 800 service help line for activating my DVR when I got the sex line instead.

I double check the number I was calling and had it right. Called the same number again and got DirecTV, so I thought I had misdialed.

A few months later, I had to call DTV again about a service question and remembering what happened previously, I carefully dialed their 800 number

...and got the sex line again!! :ignore:

Someone hijacking DirecTV's 800 number??

Forgive me if this sounds insensitive, but I laughed out loud when I read this post. I'm as frustrated as anyone with telemarketers, and would love them to stop calling. But I can also easily imagine what THEY probably think about US after they get an earful of dissatisfied rant from someone they've bothered. Giving out a known sex line phone number would be a kind of knife-twisting solace to someone like that. Which is all kind of funny, in an inappropriate kind of way.

Sorry for my odd sense of humor. ;)

I am hunting for a job and some of the newspaper advertisements are very lacking in their original information. One ad I responded to a few days ago was for a company that basically just said they were holding a job fair with many different positions available.
I went to the address, walked in and immediately could tell it was a call center. Before I could turn and run, someone grabbed me, handed me an application and sat me down in a chair to fill out the application.
I politely waited to tell the next person that this kinda job wasn't for me.
What I heard in the ten or so minutes I was sitting in that chair was incredible.
It was a resort marketer, the ones that call you to set up appointments for timeshare sales. One lady had a child on the phone saying she was Santa Claus and she had a list in her hand of things the child had done and he was well on his way to only receiving coal for Christmas. That he could score Santa points if he/she would go get their mother and put her on the phone. She got quite nasty with the child.
Another had the person on the phone partially interested, only he did not have a wife or significant other. She upped the incentive and said for him to get a neighbor or local person from the bar to go on the tour with him, that the company would never be able to tell.
I went in to talk to the interviewer as I was just flabbergasted at some of the lines coming out of these peoples mouths. He said its all a numbers game and their goal was just to get them to the presentations. I think if I was paying for these leads I would be more than a little upset.
Needless to say, I told him I wasn't interested-though he said that he did have my application on file and I could come back anytime to work-I wish one of the resorts that these people use would contact me to do a little undercover work. I could save them some big bucks.

We joke at work now about me getting the porn number....today at work I got another call, a recorded one again, about satellite tv, it said hit 1 for a person to tell you more and 2 to get taken off of their list. I hit 2 and all that does is hang the phone up. I highly doubt that it really puts you on their do not call list. At work we are required to call customers each week. we use a system called Gryphon. We dial thru a number then the customers phone number. If they are already on the national do not call list the Gryphon system tells us and the call will not let us dial that number and get thru. If they are already an accountholder of ours, we are allowed then to dial their number again, hitting a star symbol first. We then talk to them. If they are already on our own do not call list, it will absolutely not let our call go thru. If we do get someone that is not already on a do not call list and they ask us to put them on a do not call list. we have a number that we then press and it really does put them on our do not call list. We respect their request. If I am calling an existing customer and I am just calling them to remind them about a maturing CD, I just call them using our normal methods . Also, if I have to tell them their checks are in, to ask them if they want me to pay their check into overdraft, etc.
