I just returned from a conference in Ft. Myers and wonder what in the world I have been thinking since I never have used HGVC points for any of the resorts in that beautiful area of Florida. I know that it's tough to trade there certain times of year, but let me dream anyway. :)

If I were to take a couple of girlfriends who like the beach, enjoy casual dining, are a little fussy about cleaniness, and don't give a hoot about planned resort activities, what would be your suggestions about which resort to target?

The nicest resorts on Sanibel are:

Sanibel Cottages and Hurricane House

Other good choices include Sanibel Beach Club II, Tortuga Beach Club, and Casa Ybel. But the first two are the best.

Yes, thats exactly what those HGVC points are good for... those difficult exchanges on the gulf coast.

So far I've stayed at the Shell Island Beach Club in Sanibel and The Club Regency In Marco Island. There are some good reviews of these on here.

I'm looking forward to more of these vacations on the Gulf Coast.

You've mentioned this before Steve, and I've wondered how you came by this exact listing. Have you stayed in all the Timeshares on Sanibel (there are quite a few) and made this judgement? Is it based upon reviews turned-in here? Does it reflect the OP's use of HGVC points?

I'm not flaming you and don't want to start an argument. I'm just curious. I know of people who swear by other resorts, ranking those resorts as the best on the island.

That said, I'd say to the OP that any resort on Sanibel is better than not being on Sanibel. You might also look to Captiva.

:)

No, I haven't stayed at all of the resorts on the island. I used to own at Hurricane House and at Sanibel Beach Club II. I have visited most of the other resorts, although I haven't stayed at them. In addition to my personal visits, I have followed the renovations of the various resorts closely since Hurricane Charley nearly wiped out the whole island in 2004. I have done extensive reading, seen numberous pictures of the new interiors, followed the reports from the HOAs to the owners, etc. I have also talked with various people who have years of experience in the timeshare industry on Sanibel. I have a pretty extensive knowledge of the long history of timesharing on Sanibel and of the various resorts there.

As I think about it, I've spent way more time following the various timeshares on Sanibel than I probably should have. I just like the island and enjoy vacationing there...and I'm certainly a fan of timeshares. At any rate, feel free to follow or ignore my advice. Of course, there are other people who like various resorts better or worse than I do. However, I don't think that I'm leading anyone astray who chooses to follow my suggestions.

Just as a reminder that since this is on the Hilton group, these are the BEST Hilton available resorts not resorts in general. Just in case that could have been not so obvious.

It was very clear. However, I have no problem pointing out other options. I just looked at the Hilton website. All the South Seas Resorts on Captiva are HGVC.

What's the problem with pointing out Captiva?

Or, are you objecting to my saying that any resort on Sanibel is better than not being on Sanibel? If you are, well, let me point out that that is a trite old Sanibel saying that I picked-up "On-island."

Thanks Steve. As mentioned, I'm just curious. Folks at the Sanibel-Captiva message board have their own favorites, some of which aren't HGVC resorts.

SBCII isn't an HGVC resort, either. Funny, I got told, but you didn't. I was a little PO'd at the other poster, but now I see the humor in it and am having a good laugh. Go after the guest, don't hassle the moderator.
