Family is flying in to Orlando in March. They would like to fly into Sanford Airport. Does anyone know of a decent price shuttle or car to get a group of 3 to Orange Lake Resort?

Are they flying in from Midwest? If possible why not drive up to Sanford and pick them up?Airport is not as busy as OIA. I am assuming that you live in Florida?

Okay .... that is a DIVERSE list of places served by Sanford Airport.

Think I will go look back at the airport I used in my early years of flying into Florida ... Daytona Beach International Airport.

Sanford to Orange Lake is really far, my daughter has flown in there on different occasions, and we had a long, long drive from resorts that were quite a bit closer than Orange Lake.

A little more than an hour drive? Depends on traffic...we just drove it last week

my daughter told me she was arriving in Orlando, we drive past the terminal three times and her airline isn't there, she isnt' there. it is now past midnight. she then tells us she is in Sanford. We drive there and get there past one in morning, she and her friend are only ones there. we then drive back to timeshare, at least 45minutes, and that was the Hilton off of I4. then last year she had to pick up her husband at Sanford from Cypress Point. that was during rush hour.
I think at least 50 miles from Orange Lake. Has to be an expensive cab ride.

Yes, it's 50 miles on 4 and 52 miles using the toll road 417, both say an hour plus a few minutes.

What time are they arriving? If it's during rush hour, perhaps they could wait there until rush hour is over...we've done that several times when people were picking us up to make it more convenient.

Sanford is a fabulous airport to come into... Prices are so low from the Midwest, our son comes in there every year and he actually rents a car, although we would pick him up. (The savings of the airline to fly in there might even cover the rental car cost, especially if compared to a shuttle or taxi.)

Is the OP going to be at Orange Lake with a vehicle... We do not know that for sure.

We will be at Orange Lake. We would rather not pick them up as we have done that long drive thru traffic before and there may be more than 3 so we want them to get on a shuttle or something that the cost will not be too expensive for them (not taxi). I agree, Sanford is a very nice airport and yes the cost to fly in is cheaper. Orange Lake should find a shuttle (like Meers I think it was called) to accommodate those coming from Sanford as more and more are using that airport and not just Orlando International. I called OL and they said that Meers was the only one they know of and it only goes to International.

Rental cars seem to be cheap in Orlando. Why not rent a car and return it later to an Orlando location? Or, sometimes it's cheaper to have the car for a week than a two-way shuttle between Sanford and Orange Lake. Unlike MCO, rental cars in Sanford are mostly off-site with a shuttle.

Thanks Ron and Joan. They don't need a car and the aggravation of driving in the traffic either. So that sounds cheap (except that it is American dollars and they have Canadian dollars!) for round trip. What is the name of the shuttle service?

Shuttle prices may vary slightly depending on the company you choose.
Ground transportation from the Sanford Orlando Airport is a difficult decision to make. Your decision will based on a number of factors.

1. Number of persons in your group.
2. When you want to arrive at your resort.
3. How much the trip over has taken out of you.
The number of persons in your group is important. Shuttle transportation rates are based on persons. The more people in your group the more you pay for your ride. One person traveling will always get by cheaper by shuttle if he has plenty of time to spare. In many cases if there are 3 or more persons in your party you will be better off in money and time by taking a taxi.
Time is a big factor. The bus/shuttles will eventually get you to your destination. You will be able to board your bus about 1/2 to 1 1/2 hours after you depart customs. There is definitely a wait time if you ride shuttles. The taxi leaves immediately after you pick up your taxi or a driver "Meet and Greets" you across the street from customs.
Once aboard the bus you begin your journey that could take hours depending on where and how long it takes to off load at all the resorts assigned to the bus.
