Does anyone have a salad spinner that you think works great and is worth taking up the shelf space? We grow lettuce and eat salad nearly every day, so I'm thinking about buying one.

We have an OXO Salad Spinner which has held up for 15 years. If you like dry salad and greens, we think it's worth the space.

I have one which is limping along, and will be left behind when we pack the house and move. Salad spinners are a good thing to have, and are useful for more than just greens.

For instance, after blanching items, this can get most of the water off for canning. When I make my annual gallons and gallons of pesto, this takes care of all the blanched basil. The inner basket also makes an acceptable colander -- so long as the food isn't tiny.

As for brands, nothing really stands out. Until you get up to commercial-use, they're all basically the same -- you get "X" amount of spins. After that, all those plastic gears start to fail.

I have a Tupperware one and LOVE IT. We have a CSA and I use it to clean and prep all of the lettuce and other greens that come in every week. It has held up well, and I think I've probably had it close to a decade....can't really remember, TBH. If/when it dies, I will feel like I've gotten my money's worth out of it, and will replace it quickly.

Yes, get one. No opinion on brand. Besides lettuces, I use it with berries/veges to get rid of excess rinse water. I have the large one, but have ample cupboard space. If I had less space, I would get the smaller one. Just looked…we have the OXO brand. The stop mechanism is failing, but the spin is fabulous…I can stop it with my hands, so I won’t be replacing any time soon.

We too have Oxo. I use it when I have to buy whole romaine lettuce and cut it up because all the boxes of mixed greens have smushed, stinky red lettuce leaves in them. It works great, and I can store the cut up lettuce in the bowl for several days.

IMO, bigger is always better when it comes to salad spinners. Want as much room to put as much stuff in as possible but also give it room to move around with space between the leaves.

Is this the OXO Salad Spinner that some of you have?

Yes, that's the one we have. It works well, and the bowl will hold at least 3 heads of chopped romaine lettuce. The plunger can be locked in the down position so that it fits in the fridge.
