Has anyone exchanged into the Running Y Ranch in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Is it really close to Crater Lake NP? We are a family of four (9yr and 14 yr old) looking for a 2 bedroom (three beds), living room, and kitchen.

You will enjoy Running Y. Especially if you are a golfer. It is about a 1 hour drive on back country roads up to Crater Lake.

It is mostly farm country. You will be driving on quiet and well-maintained highways to get to the park and back. Even when we drove in the middle of Summer ('01 & '05), it was still not crowded.

The 2 BR units at the WM Running Y resorts are huge! Large kitchen, dining area and patio (where we have sat and watched deer families walking past us) are worth mentioning. The other features about the resort I liked are covered/inside pool, large game room, onsite bike rental, walking/biking trails and onsite grocery store/restaurant.

The huge lobby/checkin area has free Wi-Fi access too.

Having lived in the K-Falls area for 10 years I have to say unless you golf there isn't much to do in that area unless you are willing to drive a ways. Depending on when you are going Crater Lake NP may or may not be open. We have had record snowfall this year, and it is continuing to snow. Usually that means the park opens late in the season.

I agree with this statement about the area. It is similar to what people say about the area around the Lawrence Welk Resort and the Villas at Lawrence Welk. Although the area may not have a lot to offer for visitors, the resort itself can be a destination in itself. The Running Y ranch resort has covered pool, spas, tennis courts, basketball courts, stables where one can learn how to ride horses, golf course, bike rentals (bike and hiking trails) and two restaurants. :)

Don't forget spelunking in the lava caves(Lava Beds National Monument)...we're planning a trip there specifically for that reason. We've heard nothing but rave reviews about the resort and my kids (and the little kid in me) love exploring in caves and plan to spend a day there. It's about 30 miles from Klamath. You're kids are at a perfect age for that type of adventure. It brings out the tom sawyer in most people. :)
