If you listen to the 30-for-30 podcast series about the Donald Sterling affair/controversy (where he hated his "side-chick" hanging with Black men, and treating the Los Angeles Clippers like a slave plantation), they sold the Clippers for around $1Billion. So, sports teams being sold for over $999,999,999 is going to happen more frequently.

FYI, Donald Sterling didn't sell willingly. His wife had him undergo a psychiatric evaluation by a few psychiatrists, who found he had dementia that was just starting. As such, he was forced to give up his stake in the family trust. That allowed his wife to sell the team to the co-founder of Microsoft.
