Royal's New Internal "Banking" or Holding Program

------------------------------------------------------------------------------ --

Did you know the Royals now have their own Internal holding/reserve/banking system. You can now bank your week(s) internaly through their exchange system to be held up to 2 years (from date of your week) rather than having to immediatly exhange into a specific week. You can later choose your week(s) that you want to exchange into up to that 2 year period. This is great. You do it directly through their Cancun Exchange department - not through ISCO. It is so new, they don't have a specific form yet and you use their current exchange form, marking it for "reserve" they call it "Internal Hold Program" and leave the exchange dates and resort choices spaces blank. It costs $129 regular exchange fee at time you eventually choose your exchange into date. You can "hold" both the room and/or suite for two different weeks if you want (this would than involve 2 - $129 exchange fees).

This sounds much better, but why are they keeping it a secret from their members.

that sounds great and im sure you will get better trades that way but the one thing that interval has going for them is you can deposit any Royals 1 bedroom with the kitchen and get an AC, so for the 1 week deposit you can honestly come away with 3 weeks, the studio, the deposit and the AC!:whoopie:

 You are parcially correct. You CANNOT trade ALL of the royals room/lock-off outside the Royals trade system (like II) for a large villa unit. Only with the Sands, Islander and eventially the Hacienda. The Caribbean and Myan does not allow to trade the room/lock-off outside their internal trade system.

It is great that the Royals are trying this before Martriott does, and I hope it works very well. My only question would be if the unit population, although it is hugh, is large enough to support a large majority of requests. Will too many try to trade up - to newer resorts or more prime time - and many units offered by these requesters go begging?

Please pardon my ignorance, but I am confused by the statement below, which implys that 1+1 = 3!!

How does a 1 week lock-off & a 1 week one-bedroom trade for 3 weeks?? And just what is an "AC"??

Many thanks in advance!

I am assuming that he was referring to a 2 BR lock-out unit; this can be used as a 1 BR for one week (which can be deposited with Interval and II is giving an accomodation certificate for that deposit) and the studio side can be used for a second week. Thus- the 1 BR side gets you a trade through II for a week, the AC (accomodation certificate) gives you the ability to trade for another week (with restrictions and limitations as to resort, except for wide availability within 59 days before travel date) and the use of the studio side gives you a third week of vacation time.

This is esp. useful if you are just 2 people traveling (and don't need a 2 BR) and have flexible travel schedules (those with the most flexibility seem to benefit from this the most).

I am a newbie here- so someone with more experience feel free to correct

Sorry if I didnt explain it well but the poster above me said what I was trying to get out..

Exactly right and as another poster pointed out Islander,Sands and Hacienda lock-off studio units can also be exchanged thru II and often are upgraded to larger units.
If you feel comfortable waiting untill 59 days or less to secure your unit you might be amazed at what you can get with the AC like I have been.
Sholuder seasons at the Royals have been really easy for me.
I secured a week at the Westin Kireland villas for late Sept using my last AC in a 1-BR deluxe.

If we don't use ISCO, who do we contact for more information about this and where do we get the form you were talking about?

Mike

Thanks, all, for the enlightenment!!

The AC does sound like a great deal - 2 weeks for one! Why is II doing this for these specific Royal properties (i.e. is it actually a Royals initiative?), and any idea if other resorts are included in this program (i.e. do Marriott or Disney folks get the same benefits for their deposits)?

I try to keep a pretty close ear to the time share world, but this whole initiative has simply passed me by! I am mad :annoyed: because I could, right now, be holding an AC for my Royal Sands week that I traded (outside of II) earlier this year; wouldn't have done that had I been aware of this program. But it does demonstrate the value of these TUG forums!

AC's are given by Interval Int'l for certain (typically higher demand) deposits. Other resorts (but obviously not all) can also earn ACs. I'm not sure if every Royal Sands week will earn an AC either. Both of my Summer weeks do but other, slower periods may not (I'm not sure)

Hope that helps,
Mike

If you go on II's site and check your weeks for deposit it would say under the week "your week will qualify for an acomidation certificate if you deposit" or something like that...

Mike,
I see that you have 2 weeks at the sands and they are seperated by about a month, Just wondering how you do it? do you come home then fly back a month later?

Mike - posting #10------ All exchanges for the Royals are now handled directly by their Cancun office at the Royal Sands. Even when you may send their Exchange form to ISCO they forward to Cancun. I now contact the Royals Internal Exchange Department directly through this e-mail addrerss: exchanges@royalresorts.com They also have a toll free telephone number which is (877) 736-4550 One other posting asked: "why are they keeping all this a secret"? Good question - I was told that they are still finalizing the proceedures even though it is currently available and all new written forms etc. will eventually be available on-line. If you call ISCO they will also now tell you all exchanges are handled through their Cancun office - they just forward all requests they now receive in one big envelope.

Not sure if they will still do it, but our long lost friend Fletch used to call II and get a list of the weeks that qualified for an AC. Generally its weeks 52 through 16 with a few July weeks as well.

Some years my Royal Mayan week shows it will qualify for a AC online and then other years it does not.
When it does not show Online I call II and ask if I will get a AC for deposit and so Far they always give me one.
My Royal Mayan week is a shoulder season week yet it still gets a AC.

Thanks For The Info

Thanks jlhemenway for the info regarding the internal exchange. I am sure that they will eventually send out some kind of notification (newsletter, website or something)

jbuzzy,

Yes we own week 21 (Memorial Day) and week 26 (4th of July). We go at either week, but not both:( We either rent out the other week or exchange it.
Maybe we will try this new Internal Exchange system and go back-to-back weeks:whoopie:

And in case anyone is keeping track, both of my weeks qualify for an II AC.

Mike
