If i buy a fixed week unit at the Royal Sands, how easy is it to change your week in any given year. If you own April, can you move to a March week one year. Can it be done through the Royals without involving the exchange company?
Are all resale weeks able to be assigned to II or RCI? I already have an II account.

Now Royal Resorts are traded through RCI, not II.
II used to give an exchange priority to Royal owners when they are exchanged back to Royals, but not sure about RCI.

Owners can still deposit in II though, no? If so, do other Royal owners still get that priority?

This is one resort where I think it is best to rent than own

Why would you want to buy at a Royal Resort when you can probably rent anything you want for very close to maintenance fees. I have had great success renting the weeks I want. This is a saturated market. If the violence from Northern Mexico spreads, Cancun will be dead like Acapulco.

This is also a airfare dependent market. I have talked with several owners who have been hurt by monopolistic air fare pricing. They used to pay $300 - $400 and now the air fare is usually quoted from $500 - $700. That starts to make a difference for a family of 4 or more. The United States policy on Airline mergers makes you vulnerable to one more big monopoly. If you are a renter, just pass for a year when airfare is stuck over $700.

Though why rent if you can trade in with a cheap trader? Even though we own Marriott weeks, I can almost always see weeks out there for when we would normally travel using only a 1BR or studio unit. So for about $450-$500 I can trade in. I am thinking the MFs are around $1000 or more if you are to rent for close to the MFs?

Royals are still available in II. I think owners can choose to deposit in II.

If I rent from an owner, do I avoid the AI fee? (I think the answer is yes)

I will not ever trade in again because I do not want AI. I love the resort though.

If it's a mandatory AI resort, then anyone who occupies that suite whether owner, renter, or exchanger will pay the AI fee.

It's not mandatory AI - only mandatory for exchangers and renters of non-owner units.

The AI is always optional for a Royal Resorts member. It is also optional for any guests or renters in a member's own unit. It is also optional for non-members using an II exchange if the unit deposited was a Royal Resort unit. Very confusing for most everyone.

And we can still deposit and exchange using II the same as always.

Thank you sstug. Your info confirms what I thought I knew.

I may decide to just rent from a TUGger. the only other time I went was on a bonus week. Alas, those days are gone. AI screws that discount vacation.
(that was the point of adding AI, I think)

I agree. That, but mostly to get new faces (that don't mind/even prefer spending the money for AI) to try and sell units to along with the historically exchange folks that might then buy instead. It's all about selling units IMO.
