Our friends that don't listen to me bought a Royal Hacienda years ago from the developer. I know they would like to sell it but I've told them it
is best to just use it. They have recently been told it is bought out by Holiday Inn or group? and they could have access to many more destinations.
I said likely only if they buy more and even then it would probably be disappointing as to what they can get. They are not big preplanners so even if more destinations are available I doubt they would book enough in advance to actually get them. Any information about changes at the Royal Resorts would be appreciated. They have already had the major change where if they put it in an exchange company the traders have to pay the all inclusive rate which pretty much kills any value they had. TIA

Family also owns at the Haciendas for many years now. As you mentioned, they only let you make use of the Holiday Inn exchange program if you buy from their new program. Once you do, you can exchange your existing week for points to use in the program, but it is not worth it at all compared to just using it at the resort.

We have owned at the Royal Resort properties since 1991. We currently own 2 weeks at the Royal Sands and 1 week at the Royal Haciendas- all purchased pre-construction from the developers. The Holiday Inn Club Vacations purchased the RR in May of 2023. All owners were notified at the time. Since 2010 when the RR went AI, if the owner put it into an exchange company it would be listed as AI. If someone rents from an owner it is not mandatory AI. That has not changed, so you are misinformed. As the previous poster said in order to make use of the HICV destinations you must buy into their program. IMHO their resorts are nothing to write home about- no loss. We did not and will not buy into their program. In addition we own permanent weeks so we always know when we are going. Our only planning is booking airfare. We love the RR and use them annually.
