I will be going to the Royal Islander for week 4 for the first time in 10 years (due to my husband’s illness), and also probably the last time. I know there must have been a lot of changes in 10 years, but what are major ones I should be aware of. For example, is there still a grocery store at the Islander? Should I still pre book transport from the airport? Do many people still grocery shop downtown (ie we used to go to Walmart). Thanks for any tips.

I can't answer many of your questions, but you always want to prebook transportation. My suggestion is USA Transfers.

I was in Cancun a few months ago, but don't know anything about the Royal Islander. Definitely pre-book airport transfers. I had a good experience using ONE (arranged through Westin Lagunamar) but I've heard good things about USA Transfers from others. A lot of Americans were grocery shopping downtown. I did go to the Walmart.

There is Royal Market - a small grocery store inside Royal Islander. Prices are higher than supermarkets, but mostly not outrageous. You can take a free shuttle to Royal Sands, where it's a short walk to Soriana.

Thomas Moore travel is the Royals shuttle, prebook and charge to your room.
If you have Uber eats on your phone, you can order groceries for delivery, the app is called Cornershop by Uber. Costco, Sorianna or Selecto Chedraui are available for ordering.

The other option is to book another transportation company, like USA or Canada transfers and ask them to stop at a grocery store. They usually charge around $30 extra.
