After our stay at Wyndham National Harbor in mid-spring, we'd like to take a long way, couple of day road trip back to NE Ohio.
What do Tuggers think about heading back through Delaware, the Lewes/Cape May Ferry to NJ and routing our way back through Wilmington so as to avoid the Philadelphia traffic. Should we spend time in the Cape May region? What sights should we consider worth a stop? Ideas and suggestions appreciated. Thanks!

Taking the Cape May ferry is much more pleasurable than driving through Philly...but does take longer.

Cape May is wonderful in mid-spring. The town is cute with plenty of good eats and historic houses and there are lots of nature things to do in the area. A bit further north is Brigantine and the Forsythe NWR and Smithville (a historical reenactment village).

The Cape May ferry is not my favorite ride. It open water. It takes about an hour and a half. It can be rough. There is not much to see most of the time. Still to do it once is not bad. Lewes is a nice little town. Cape May has the big historic houses. If it was a little later in the spring you could get a taste of Jersey shore life in Wildwood or beyond. I think you would go though Philly anyway to get home but that may not be the point. I would say the whole thing for me would be weather dependent. If it's going to be sunny and warm go for it. I don't think you would have to plan that far ahead in the spring.
