Risky to change reservation at WSJ?

Last night I was able to secure 5 nights in a 3 bedroom at Bay Vista. It was exactly 8 months out. For several reasons I would much prefer to start our 5 day stay on the next day, Saturday. It does show some (low) availability online. I am considering canceling our reservations right before midnight and trying to secure a new reservation starting on Saturday. However, I will be super upset with myself if I cancel and then end up with nothing! I just called reservations and they were not able (or unwilling) to tell me how much availability there is.

Any advice?

Limited availability usually means it will be gone in seconds - so it's risky.

If you want to risk it, you shouldn't try to do it yourself at midnight. Instead, some time tomorrow mid-morning or early afternoon you should call and ask the reservations agent to change it for you. Remember, all you're really trying to do is relinquish a day at the beginning of the reservation and add a day to the end. There is probably enough availability to add a Wednesday night to the end. The reservations agent should caution you that there is a possibility you can lose your reservation, which is true. However, as long as you're doing this during business hours, my experience has been that even when the reservations agent was unable to secure the replacement booking, they were able to work with an inventory specialist to at least reclaim the original reservation.

Your mileage may vary, and I'm in no way guaranteeing that this strategy will work!

WSJ seems to show some strange availability. My feeling is it is due to there being similar size but disparate units when compared to other destinations so the software does not handle availability as well. This means availability shows but it is not contiguous and then can't reserve.
My WSJ Feb 16 reservation was snapped up when I saw it with plans to look for alternate dates. Those dates never showed even though they showed availability in the day's and hours prior.
