What - sell a WESTGATE at a profit??!

I wish I could sell mine for just a reasonable fraction of the price I paid for it.

I didn't know you could buy a specific week from a developer. I thought developers sell either points or seasons which include prime and sub-prime weeks and your occupancy is based on availability.
Which developers(if any) sell individual weeks.

Westgate Resorts sell specific deeded weeks - or they did when we purchased.
It might have changed now, I don't know.

You can buy specific weeks from quite a few developers. Eg:

I have two week 7s from Marriott (bought resale) one in the Aruba Ocean Club and the other in the Aruba Surf Club. I also have two week 52s and a week 51 at Harborside (Starwood) also bought resale.

If you take a look at sites like Redweek or myresortnetwork you'll find that a lot of the resorts advertised for sale will have a mixture of floating and fixed weeks.

We bought our three timeshares from the developer, the first one back in 1984. All three were bought before we found Tug. That said, we have enjoyed 23 years of vacationing in top notch resorts/villas. We would have never traveled that much if it wasn't for our timesharing. Yes, I know we could have saved a ton of money purchasing resale, but we don't look back on that. We figured we probably have broken out even by now and have traveled to Hawaii, Cancun, Aruba many times, Arizona many times, Orlando many times, Cape Cod many many times & Antigua. We look ahead to many more years of vacationing. Our next trip is to Aruba Surf Club May 2008 2 bdrm villa, using FF miles. Cost: less than $300. :cheer:

Westgate allows you to own ANY week you want. Some weeks are holiday weeks and cost 50% - 100% more than a week before or after it. Outside of holiday weeks you simply pay 10% more to fix the week. You can even fix the floor at some of their resorts. Some allow you to fix the week, and specific condos.

I wish Marriott allowed this at all their resorts. Lock in your anniversary would be fantastic - or special days like birthdays so the family can get together in future years without having to buy atomic clocks and waiting for 8 AM CST to reserve your unit.

10% of the average Marriott of $30k is $3k for a simple change in paperwork and a few lines of code in their reservation system. I guess the sales force would have to be alerted. Knowing Marriott that would mean an extra $300 in the pocket of the salesrep for a few minutes of "Reserve the vacation for the rest of your life" - what Marriott sales rep couldn't sell this? (Maui, I believe, allows this on the new towers)

P.S.
This is a bargaining chip you control.

Sir, have you or anyone you know, ever had someone contact you via e-mail by the name of one: James Rhodes from the UK?

I have had an offer to purchase my timeshare from him (FULL PRICE) and when I inquired as to how he had found my e-mail address he stated that it was from the TUG website.

Has anyone ever dealt with this type of questionable practice or procedure before?

My wife thinks it's SPAM and a RIPOFF and doesn't want me to deal with him. His spelling is atrocious (especially when we have spellcheck available) and he claims he's a CEO of a company. "Why would a CEO want to go through TUG instead of just paying full price when he's got that kind of money?" That's her reasoning.

If anyone has ever dealt with this type of situation.... please give me some advice. Thanks I appreciate your help in this matter.

Your wife is giving you VERY good advice. I'd heed it.

(Yes, it's a ripoff)

It's a scam, same thing happened to me a couple of months ago. Ignore the e-mail. When most of the words are misspelled, it's probably someone from Nigeria.

Wastegate ain't no Disney or Marriott

I bought a Westgate ski week and a Marriott via resale and can now sell for a PROFIT.

I did not plan on making a profit, I was just a well informed buyer.

Steam - I wouldn't count on anything from Wastegate until you actually accomplish it. Those chickens are very likely never to hatch.

A top rated TUG (TUG ratings) developer only sells that way, a specific unit for a specific week. They are the Royal Resorts in Cancun/Playa del Carmen, Mexico (and other places). Hence the resales are the same way.

I suspect that most resorts sell fixed weeks, it's just that most of the big-name hospitality companies that entered the timeshare business in the last 15 years sell floating weeks and points, as part of their "program." Most of these are developers who operate several resorts, and are catering to a different demographic than the original timeshares.

If you look at most of the older resorts (lower numbered resorts in RCI, for instance) you will find that most sell fixed weeks. You will probably also see a larger percentage of owners using their weeks at these resorts, as that's how they were sold - exchanges were and added benefit. Now exchanging is a big part of the hard sell; while a salesman will tout the benefits of your home resort, it will be more in terms of how it translates to demand within the exchange system, not the benefits of actually staying at your home resort.

Check eBay, a lot of resell are fix week, fix unit. They are all from developer to start with. My 1st sell presentation they give me a list of week to pick, each has a certain price. That is the time when I realize I have no idea what I was doing, and rescind the offer.:D

I bought a floating ski week (about 2 years ago) at Westgate Park City resale for $25,000 and the going resale price is now around $30,000.

This is a VERY desirable timeshare and a fantastic ski resort. I am NOT interested in selling (now) as I really enjoy that location. The main reason I bought was it costs $3,000-$4,000 to rent a similar 2 bedroom unit there.

For all the Westgate haters....please realize my only Westgate experience is with Park City and it is a AWESOME timeshare.
