I thought you guys might get a kick out of the letter I got from Wyndham yesterday....just a week ago they wouldnt let me have an owner update at Bonnet Creek, now they offer me a loan to buy more points

50% down $15000 minimum loan at 18% interest 5 year term. Thats more than $5000 a year (payments and mf) to enjoy a week in a one bedroom at some of Wyndhams resorts....."such a deal"

On the one hand I have to be pleased; given my credit Im surprised anyone would give me a loan for anything

On the other hand as a member of a POA somewhere I wouldnt want someone with my credit history, taking on a loan like this and expecting them to make their maintenance fee payments every year

As Goucho Marks used to say..."PLEASE ACCEPT MY RESIGNATION. I DON'T WANT TO BELONG TO ANY CLUB THAT WILL ACCEPT PEOPLE LIKE ME AS A MEMBER".

Hi Ron,

Congratulations! :) Just a friendly note that you might want to crop the attachment or something so that your physical mailing address is not visible...unless you really enjoy receiving junk mail ;)

No need to filter on credit for the offer - Those who can afford 50 % down $7,500 minumum aren't going to walk away IMHO

:hysterical:

even if you never make one payment they have $7500 of your money!

ronparise your credit must not be any good , they offer me $25,000 LOL

Heck I'm unemployed (and my DH hasn't worked in 10 years) and I got the offer.

What do you mean they would not offer you an update? I've had this happen at Worldmark but Whyndham - they hound me

This is bad. People who really can't afford even the required down payment will be pressured by sales to put the deposit on a credit card and take the loan. A month later they will be sitting in the pile of closing papers wondering what they just got into.

Thats my point exactly..Wyhdham sales is trying to sign up all these new owners,...sure they get a downpayment, but that belongs to Wyndham...The POAs are sol when the new owner stops paying....

I dont mind junk mail... I walk right by the trash can as I walk from the mailbox through the garage into the house...and I read my email with one finger in the delete key

I have a "confirmation" for my first-ever timeshare in September. Due to finances, we decided to get a 1-bedroom Presidential at Bonnet Creek (my wife loves Disney). I would be OK with going to an Update for one simple reason: the economy annihilated our credit, so I seriously doubt they would finance us with less than 550 Credit Score. If they give us a loan sheet (aka qualified for a loan) with any interest, we'll say we can't afford it due to paying off bills.
Personally, I don't see why ANYONE would buy a timeshare at 18% interest. Or ANYTHING for that high! I think the reason they charge such high interest is due to the company practically "losing their shirt" due to tons of bankruptcies of owners, and the resorts foreclosing and getting nothing in return. MFs only pay the bills, zero profit there.

I went, as I was told, to the parking pass desk and I had already (whore that I am) decided to do the "update" and submit to the sales pitch for the cash. But I was told me that I didnt come up in the rotation..she couldnt schedule me.

Sounds pretty simple to me, Ron. They don't mind taking your money by mail but you're too much trouble -- they don't want to mess you in person!

We're pretty much PITAs at "updates." I've walked out several times. My wife stays until she gets the bribe, then walks out. Problem is, this really sucks as a way to start a vacation. We'll probably be flagged before long, which is fine with me.

By the way, any idea what it means to "come up in the rotation?" All I've ever seen at the parking pass desk is a list of people checking in.

My guess is it means they were at or near resort capacity, knew they wouldn't have enough spots to schedule everyone and had done some triaging of sorts with the freshest meat at the top of the list and the crusty been there done that well-informed consumers at the bottom.

My wife says Im a PITA all the time...

re the rotation: they made it sound like they had more guests than the sales staff (I mean update staff) could handle. and that perhaps I could get a meeting next time. Maybe this week they were only doing the first half of the alphabet

By the way...did you find someone for New Years Eve in New Orleans? Ive had more success than I could imagine with the BCS..Ive rented 17 three and four day reservations...I dont know who Craig is, but his list has worked wonders for me

One of the Resort Staff tiped me off at one location, what the eyes see they see. When you go to the desk pass people, they will look you up on a daily computer run. Names are highlighted as Red and Orange or there is no highlight. At least one of the colors are for the targeted group for a sales presentation. Not sure what the other color is for or which is which nor do I know what the un-highlighted color was for. I have asked a couple of times but they will not say. Maybe if someone knows, they will post the meaning of the code. My guess is the unhighlighted ones are the people they are not inviting.

i don't know what the colors are ,but I do know that at every update they have checked and found i'm a resale ,not a victim of wyndham and in most cases ,say there is nothing they can do for me,assuming that in all cases they meant that they knew i wasn't going to buy retail, because i was smart to buy resale , i've been told straight up at MB ,and alluded to at smoky mtns.,sedona az. gov. gn .and if a reservation has been thru rci never a mention of an update.

Nope. Still have one four-day reservation at Avenue Plaza starting Friday, 12/30. Tried to sweeten the deal with two Plaza Level tickets to the Saints game Sunday but no bites. Only thing to do is go to the game ourselves. Poor us!

We leave tomorrow morning, whenever my wife proclaims readiness. We're doing an overnight at Fairfield Glade, a new place for us because Smoky Mountains was booked. After a week at La Belle Maison, we'll stop for a night at Wyndham Panama City Beach (another place new to us) on the way to a week at Wyndham Santa Barbara, one of our favorites. A two night stay at Lake Marion on the way up I-95 and we're home on Jan 16th.

I hope to have a job lined up by then! My contract expires 12/31 and the follow-on hasn't been awarded yet, if you can imagine that. It was a small business set-aside so General Dynamics, my current employer, had to sit it out.

Happy New Year!

I got the letter a few weeks ago. I meant to post about it here, but I kept forgetting. I got the $25,000 offer as well. I am sure that would get me 154,000 developer, "VIP-eligible" points. I liked how they told me all about Wyndham point and what you can do with them. (Hint: I already own plenty of resale points). Whatever direct mail company they used didn't do a very good job of targeting non-owners.
