Hello,
Long story short, I traded a Marriott week(MGC) for MCV on II. I used a guest certificate because my buddy was suppose to be there to check-in before me. Plans have changed and now I will be arriving before him. I have called MVC, II and even Marriott Canyon Villas to get the reservation back in my name, but all three are saying I cant change the reservation in my name or reverse the guest certificate. Does anyone have any insight how to add my name to the reservation or cancel the guest certificate?

You would go to the II website and go to My History. You should be able to delete the guest certificate there.

Nice! I'm not sure why I didn't think of that before or why the II rep didn't tell me. @dioxide45, Is there a deadline on when I have to cancel it by? Was wondering if I can wait until a couple days before check-in just in case there's a chance he can check-in before me.

I am not 100% sure. Name changes usually get sent to Marriott in an overnight batch process. So if I add a guest certificate today I can usually look up the reservation on Marriott.com tomorrow in the guests name. I would think removing a guest certificate would be the same, but as stated I am not 100% sure.

From the II faq-
I have read others say you can add/ modify a GC right up check in day so you should just be able to change the name on the GC to yours

Q. How do I purchase a Guest Certificate online?

  • You´ll have the opportunity to purchase a Guest Certificate online at the time you make an exchange confirmation or place a request.

You can also purchase a Guest Certificate online when you buy your Getaway.

If your transaction was already completed, simply go to your Member Corner and click on “My Transactions” to view your exchange and Getaway history. You have the option to add, modify or delete a Guest Certificate for any current exchange or Getaway transaction by clicking the “ADD/MODIFY/DELETE” button.

This happened to me when I was putting my son on a reservation but accidentally put him on the wrong trade. I was able to reverse it on interval as listed above. Easy but it did cost me one of my free guest certificates (with platinum membership) but it wasn’t a big deal as I still have three left and don’t really need them.
