I've waited to the last minute. This Saturday is the retirement party for my old principal. After over 30 years of service in education, he's calling it quits. He's been a great boss and I really want to get him something that he will use. The staff is going in together to buy a kayak. But I want to get an individual gift. Do you have any ideas? I'm open to anything.

NetFlix.

Sign him up for a lifetime membership in NetFlix so he can watch all the movies he can stand on DVD.

Bake him a Rum cake and you can take it in one of those glass domed cake stands as his gift as well. I have given this several times and it is always a hit. I just gave one to a couple for their 50th wedding anniversary. (golden rum cake for their golden anniversary).

I recently retired and have very much enjoyed the restaurant gift cards I received.

My husband and I also enjoyed receiving the restaurant gift cards when we retired. What about a gas card? I would think anyone would appreciate one of those! Hope your boss enjoys retirement as much as we do.:whoopie: We also have kayaks and to us, they are "priceless"! One of the best investments we ever made.

A water safety vest? A water helmet? It'd really be a bummer to be out celebrating a recent retirement and suddenly have a critical need for one of these items but be without, ya know? And even if he already has them...do they match the new boat???

Other than that, then I like the restaurant card idea as well.

How about some books about kayak water ways to explore. Or Barnes and Nobles gift card. He will have more time for pleasure reading.

REI Gift Card

REI or similar outdoor store gift card.

If your friend is able to travel he might enjoy knowing about Elderhostel http://www.elderhostel.org/default.asp. As an educator he will appreciate the programs. If he is like you I am sure he has an adventurous spirit. I have found that many people who could benefit from this organization are unaware it exists.

You can still give him the resteraunt gift card as it costs nothing to suggest Elderhostel.

Buy him a fishing outfit.

tree

For principals day, one year we gave an apple tree. Then we hung cut-out apples with 'memories and appreciations, etc.' written on them.

Thanks for responding.

Thanks for all of the great ideas. I'm going with the restaurant gift card. I think both he and his wife will enjoy the gift.
