Interesting story. I live in Nevada. There is no state income tax, unlike where I came from. California has a 9.3% income tax, and that includes pensions. Sales taxes are slightly less here. Property tax is slightly lower here. Car insurance is a bit less, as is house insurance. DMV Fees (auto licensing) is high here compared to California, which has had an offset of more than half of their fees (a discount of the "real fees," which technically have not been changed). Many people I run into who come "from somewhere else" complain about the high DMV fees, forgetting that they pay no income tax.
I'd like to personally thank all of you who vacation in Nevada, and make deposits in our casinos. Your tourist dollars keep our overall taxes low.
Gee, I live 30 min from Atlantic City. I wish I could say that the casino revenue keeps my taxes low. NJ has the highest property tax in the nation and pretty near the highest auto insurance. I don't know how our sales tax compares but I can take a guess.
