Can any recommend any restaurants in or around the Poconos? We are looking for family type places, also any micro breweries?

How about some of the ones in restaurant.com? I saw a few for that area.

Thanks

For a Micro brewery try Barley Creek near Camel back. Another good one is Stone bar. there was a Restaurant.com GC for it.

If you like Thai food there is a great place off of 611 as soon as you go over the Delaware water gap in PA.click here for more info.

For a fun place in Scranton try Coppers Ale house. At one time it was Rated one of the top ten in the US. There is more nostagalia there than in any other restaurant that I have seen. there are 2 coppers the one I am talking about looks like a ship from the out side. Depending on when you go you can catch a minor league game on the way or do ice skating there in the winter.

There's also a nice place that there are always 20% coupons for in Strasburg. I forget the name but will find out soon as I have a refrigerator magnet down stairs. I will edit it to place the name. It is located on an old rail road station.

thanks - how about the entertainment book? does anyone know where you can buy one there? it is too late for me to order one on line. Or maybe they will just take my card if i could get a list by numbers of places.

When you say Poconos, what area do you mean? Shawnee, Split Rock, Lake Wallenpaupak? Forget The Stone Bar, it's overpriced and the food isn't worth it. Studebaker's is good and reasonably priced. It's on Route 611 between Stroudsburg & Bartonsville.

Big Frank, Strasburg is nowhere near the Poconos!

We are staying at the Ridge Tops at Shawnee on the delaware.

We always make sure to go to a little hole in the wall called Jaga. Here's a link to a map and phone number.

It's Polish/Ukrainian kind of food--pirogies, blintzes, potato pancakes, mushroom-barley soup, kasha varnishkas, cucumber salad with sour cream and dill, that kind of thing. Heavy but very good and very reasonable, a real local place. The waitress (I think she's an owner) always remembers us even though we don't go there more than every six months! I hope you like it, it's not fancy at all. My husband LOVES it!

We thought Sam Sneads (right in Shawnee - next to Playhouse & General Store) was pretty good, and fair pricing. Lunch is not expensive, and you might try there.

But I think I saw another tugger think it wasn't that great.

One day we drove to the Fernwood area, and tried an Italian place, with big signage. Folks there were great (service), nice & clean, but the cook didn't do such a good job......medicore that eve.

Last years ent book had many places, but if not a local, you would have been hard pressed (and take all day) to find many of the places.

The three Shawnee Inn restaurants WERE LISTED, but we didn't get to any of them. I know they had a flood a few months earlier (Del River overflow from Ivan) and it looked like they were still trying to get the Inn back into shape.

(I think they are always working on that place...)

Are you in the Ridge Top or Ridge Top Summit units? Summit are still 5 star.

Studebaker's would be within a reasonable distance. There is a new restaurant in the Stroud Mall called Garfield's. Not a big menu, mostly burgers and pasta, but it's reasonable and the food's decent. They have a Happy Hour 5-7 PM, Mon-Thurs. Drinks are half price and so are some of the appetizers.

Thanks for all the good ideas, I will definately try the micro brewery. The II form says we are staying at Ridge Top villiage at Shawnee. Not sure if that is good or bad. Seems good based on the TUG reviews. We have only been to the poconos once many years ago and stayed at the ceasars. I heard there are a lot of activities at the Ridge Top villiage. I just hope they have the pool open

Dansbury Depot in Stroudsburg is a nice family restaurant. Train station atmosphere with model trains running around the ceiling and the foods pretty good and reasonable.

I would recommend "Saen" Thai restaurant right in the Shawnee Square if you are into Thai food. Their lunch specials during weekdays was I think $7. Great deal. Their handmade spring rolls were the best I had in a long time.

On others that people mentioned:

Dansbury Depot in Stroudsburg - mediocre food.
Barley Creek near Camel back - great beers, mediocre food.

JMHO.

I forgot about that Thai restaurant! You're right, it is good. The pizzeria in Shawnee Square is pretty good, too. One night we parked our kids at the pizzeria, and my DH and I went and had Thai food three doors down. The pizzeria wasn't crowded and our oldest DD is 15, so it wasn't like leaving a bunch of under-sixes, but it was still exciting for us!

You're also absolutely right about Barley Creek, we had the exact same assessment.

This won't suit you as it is not in the Shawnee part of the Poconos, but for others staying at or near Split Rock, try a charming little place called Terra Cottage... The restaurant has a lovely, original crafty charm, and is a great choice for all meals. They do a German tradition "Steak On A Stone" which if you've never had it is delicious and fun... They also run it as a late lunch or early dinner special in mid week so if $18 Filet Mignon appeals to you call them for the specifics. The Restaurant has a web site, and you should be able to Google up the link easily... It is right near Lake Harmony, and you will not regret a visit, even if you drive 20-miles or so...

Cheers, Bob

Not far from Shawnee is Alaska Pete's on RT 209, south of Shawnee. Also the Shawnee Inn is nice.
