Restaurants in Breckenridge?

We will be in Breckenridge for a week next month. Three families each with 2 teenage kids. We plan to go to dinner 2 nights with the kids and 3 nights just the parents, while the kids go out for pizza or make mac & cheese or something in the rooms. We're thinking they will want some time to themselves anyway. Can anybody recommend good restaurants? Or are there any you would stay away from?

It's been a few years since we've visited Breck but we had a great dinner (in fact, two) at The Blue River Bistro which is on the main street. That is where I learned to make the jalapeno margarita.

I'm really bad at remembering the names of restaurants. But I do remember the happy hour at Mi Casa (tacos and margeritas) and also at Briar Rose (tapas/ small plates). With a group like that though it sound like gourmet cabby is the perfect solution.

Beer? Burgers?

Some may disagree, but you can't go wrong with something for everyone at Breckenridge Brewery, a short walk across the street from Mountain Valley.

Hearthstone was our favorite for a fancier dinner, yet still pretty reasonably priced, set in an old Victorian house a block or two off the main street. An easy walk from most places in the main part of town, even in the winter when we went.

This isn't dinner per se, but when we went to Breck, my family loved getting crepes at the crepe stand on Main St. They have a little fire going to stay warm while you wait, and the crepes are sooooo good!!

Columbine Cafe on Main St. Great breakfast joint. Check out reviews on TA.

The Lost Cajun serves high value French creole food. The owners are from Louisiana and the portion/taste/value of the food is quite high. I don't think they take reservations.

Breckenridge used to be owned by a Japanese firm. So their sushi is quite good as well. I recommend the Mountain Flying Fish restaurant.

I also echo the above post about Mi Casa. Happy hour - drink their margarita and the free chips and salsa.

Crepe stand is excellent but the wait can be long!

We made a day trip to Breckenridge in December. Ate at the Canteen Taphouse right on Main Street. Good food and great selection of beers on tap. Price was definitely reasonable. I wouldn't pick this place if you're looking for fancy or upscale but more casual and fun

I'm in and out of Breckenridge every 2 or 3 weeks in the wintertime. LOTS of places to eat there, but tough to find the really good places.

We're in Breckenridge this week (a bit of rainy, stormy week, but whatchagoin do?) and I just want to say thank you for all of these recommendations. We tried to go the crepe cart for breakfast this morning, but we were too early (they don't open until 10 am on weekdays) so, based on this thread, walked on down to the Columbine Cafe--which was *so good* with generous portions. Four of us ate for less than $40! TUGgers have never steered me wrong, and I look forward to checking out some of the dinner/lunch recommendations later this week.

We're at Grand Timber Lodge in a 1 bd, if anyone has any questions.

We enjoyed Briar Rose Steakhouse our last trip. A little pricey but good steaks.

Twist has some interesting twists on things. A little adventurous for my wife's tastes but I enjoyed it very much.

Fatty's Pizza has a decent pizza and Italian.

Empire Burger has some really good reviews and was always busy when we were in the area. I think we'll give it a try next trip.

We've never been fans of Mi Casa. Have tried it several times and it's a little to fancy for Mexican food for us. Instead we prefer Fiesta Jalisco.

Park and Main was interesting but I think I'd prefer it for lunch.

Blue Moose is our favorite breakfast restaurant but be aware they don't take credit cards.

Columbine Café is a close second IMHO to the Blue Moose.

Soupz On has some interesting soups, salads and great breads. I love, the wife not so much. Mostly a take out place but they have a few tables.

We've tried the Quandry Grille a couple of times. Neither of us care much for it and doubt we ever go back.

Duggan's Deli, along the Blue River walkway and not that easy to find, makes some really good deli sandwiches. One of my favorites for lunch with a table along the Blue River in the shade of a tree.

Breakfast N Bread is a new breakfast/lunch place along the Blue River trail. Nice breakfast, outdoor seating along the river. Great pancakes.

Two places we were so unimpressed with:

The Dredge: Every time we walk by it we call it the Drudge. Worst service and worst food we've had in a "higher" end style restaurant. It's rare we have a meal so bad that a restaurant is a one and done for us.

Gold Pan: Cute looking place for breakfast, as if you stepped back into the 1800's. Not so bad I wouldn't ever go back but there's to many other places that are so much better it's just not worth the effort.

Bubba Gumps: Really, people are in Breckenridge surrounded by great locally owned restaurants and people eat here? OK so it's a known and maybe comfortable but, why?

So that's my list.......and just my opinion. I've left off some places we go to that are average but decent. There's a lot of options in Breck and most of them provide a good, or at least interesting meal. It's really hard to go wrong most of the time.

The Lodge pole restaurant on site isn't to bad. Better for pizza or a burger IMHO.

If you like pancakes, not far from the Columbine Café along the Blue River is Breckfast N Bread. It's on the other side of the river by the covered footbridge in a hotel. The banana pancakes I had tasted just like warm banana bread and really didn't need syrup. Great outdoor seating by the river. My wife's ham and eggs wasn't bad but not exceptional either. My opinion is this is the place to go for really good pancakes.

Thanks so much for the additional thoughts! We tend to only try to eat out no more than once per day, so we'll need to make some tough choices.
