Marriott Canyon Villas Phoenix AZ
Which is the smallest Marriott and which is the largest? In terms of number of rooms. Thanks!

Chris

Not sure which is the smallest but Waiohai only has 243 rooms. Newport Coast will have about 750 when it is built out. Maybe others can weigh in with higher or lower than these.

GV has around 1,000 units without dividing for lockoffs. Ko Olina should have about the same number when it's completed.

I think Monarch has 122,

The other numbers I have are below. Most are from during construction so the final count could vary.

OP was suppose to be 292 but that number could have changed due to the plan revisions.
Aruba Ocean Club was planned for 125.
Barony was planned for 255.
Ocean watch was planned for 374 units.
Surfwatch 185.
Grande Ocean 240 per the POS but I'm thinking it ended up a little off from that.
Legends Edge 120
I think Heritage is 30 units
Preconstruction Waiohai was planned for 231
Harbour Club I think is 40?
SB (former Marriott) seems like was 24 units
ST (former Marriott) I think was 37
HP is ?76
I don't seem to have SP though I thought I did.

This is what I had, the numbers may vary from one source or another.

Just looked up Frenchman's Cove: 220 units. I have no idea for the other two resorts we own.

Thanks for the info. Ko Olina with 1,000 units. Probaby should have asked this question before we purchased. I may be wrong, but I'm thinking mid-size to smaller would be better? I hope I'm wrong. Maybe Grand Vista and Ko Olina will offer more activities for our kids? Or maybe it won't feel that big? Having just purchased we have no real experience as of yet, but are looking forward to our vacations.

Ko'Olina will have a max of 750 when complete. Don't know about Ko'Olina now, as it is only about half-built. Grande Vista is pretty much done, and is very large. There are many activities, but also I think some of the common areas like the fitness center are too small for the resort at it's current size (although they are planning an expansion of some of this stuff, as they realize they are not big enough). I had no problem with the size of Grande Vista except the fitness room. Walking around is not all that bad, either, but now they have a shuttle bus. You can drive, but parking can be a problem sometimes (like if you take your car to the main area). The farthest point from the main area is maybe the equivalent of 2 blocks. Each area has their own pool, so unless you are getting coffee or something, you don't have to go over there. We stayed accross the bridge and it only took a couple minutes to walk over.

As already mentioned the plan for Ko'Olina has 750 units. The size will bring some good things to the resort. Since the area around the resort is residential (other than the JW hotel) there aren't a lot of restaurants and shops close by. A larger resort will support more eating/shopping options. Each building will have its own pool, so hopefully pool crowding won't be a problem. One concern we had was that, when we were there last December, there did seem to be a number of people using the pools who we believed were not owners/guests of the resort.

I'm at Ko'Olina right now and the number of activites available daily are amazing. We were at Maui Ocean Club last week and they had virtually nothing planned for children or families.

As for the issue regarding outsiders and the pool, you are given a different colored wrist band every day and they check you name against a listing to make sure you are a current registered guest. They patrol the pool quite frequently, so I'm sure that has cut down on the number of outsiders.

A larger resort might actually be better for activites due to supply and demand. More guests, more demand for services. Hard to justify staffing a children's program when you have only a handful of children. Plus, any of the resorts that are located near "sister" Marriott hotels tend to share the children's clubs for the smaller kids. Here, they utlize the facilites over at the JW for the kids under 4.
