Resort pool chair saving is getting out of hand.

I guess I haven't done this, but you have a unit right? We keep all our stuff in the Unit except what we're actively wearing / using. I don't even need a chair for storing those, lockers near the pool or just on the ground near the pool / hot tub has been generally sufficient. Though again, we're not going at busy times so haven't even seen anyone using a chair before.

These usually are describing someone having a towel or maybe a book, not a whole ... IDK even what ... set of stuff.

IDK, for me I feel like this would be like getting a table at a restaurant because you might want a drink sometime in a day and never even actually sitting there. Or reserving an exercise machine. Like, if you're not using it RIGHT NOW, you don't get to save it. I could see the average bathroom break being OK, but otherwise, you're not using the thing, why are you keeping others who would be using it from using it?
Exactly! People want to sleep in or go have a nice relaxing lunch but want to make sure nobody else gets to use "their" chairs at the pool!

Ko Olina seemed worse this year to me. People were out there before 6 to save chairs. Some stayed but most just left the towels and a book or something. Security would come around a couple times but didn't do much. It's pretty pathetic in my opinion. Oh ya, and then a lot of the people spent most of their time in the pool. So they held the chair all day and actually had their butt in the chair very little or at least that's what it seemed to me. Sort of annoying.

We just returned from a month in Ko'Olina and I agree that it was worse this year then ever before. We spent most of our days at the Reflection pool and my husband went down early, so as not to disturb me, but I arrived about 6am each morning to join him. I believe most of the people that arrive early and save multiple chairs are unaware of the rules or feel so entitled they don't feel the rules apply to them. If security actually came through prior to 7am and enforced the rule that says you can not reserve and leave the chair prior to 7am and one person can only reserve 2 chairs, I feel it would make a better experience for all.

Thanks! The beach/grass ones don't interest me, but are good for some I'm sure.

$300 for a 6 person Cabana seems a bit pricey, but if we have a day that we intend to hang out at the pool all day, we may spring for that next summer, especially as we will have a toddler travelling with us.
Altho the grass cabanas don't interest you, we enjoy having a higher sight line to whale watch. It is also a bit quieter, since it above the children playing in the water.

We love the cabanas on the grass. It is our first choice.

Speaking of pool/beach chairs, I believe I've read that Maui Ocean Club has cabana rentals. Is there a website, or do you have to reserve over the phone or in person?

We were there last month, and they told me you can reserve from the cabana guy right down by the cabanas in the grass. We didn’t end up renting one because we could always get chairs.

You can reserve the cabanas in advance. If you call the resort, I believe they can connect you directly.

That is good to know! And of course, they always seem to call us before our arrival(to get us a tour, of course) so maybe you could ask then if they call. 😊

The problem with ALL OF THIS is that there is ZERO enforcement consistency among resorts. This book will continue to add chapters until 1) guests stop acting entitled and 2) resorts enforce the policies consistently across the board.

I have no problem with different enforcement and/or policies at different resorts. The MVC in LV has far fewer chairs than St Kitts and a far stricter policy is both necessary and easier to enforce because of LV's greater staff/chair ratio.

That said, I do think that whatever policy the resort decides to implement should be one that they can and do enforce.

Send complaints to the TS leadership for them to come up with solutions for “unhogging” scheme😂

Many hotels fixed the problem of people hogging prime loungers by roping them off and charging a fee to reserve them.

The problem that I see at Ko Olina and Maui Ocean Club is that there are not enough chairs, and or not enough chairs with shade. That seems to be one of the major causes of the chair issue. Another solution would be to take all the prime locations and just rent them out by the hour like they do the beach cabanas.

The only thing worse than resort pool hair shaving is getting lied to about electric vehicles.
Imagine getting lied to about electric vehicles while waiting to find a resort pool chair.

This thread is great for providing a list of places I don't want to go, toooo many other people is not what I go on vacation for.

That makes sense. Our is specifically TO be able to see the kids playing in the water. That's where pool side chairs are great, but if we can't get them, a cabana near the pool as a place to camp out, eat, get shade will work for us.

Our spoiled children aren't beach fans. Too much sand. They very much prefer the pool.

Here is a sign poolside at Crystal Shores. I’ll observe if folks adhere and if security enforces.

For what it's worth, we were there in December and I didn't notice any chair-hogging at that pool (the top one, which I think is where the sign is). Everyone with stuff there was butt-in-seat or in the pool, and I noticed an attendant walking around. There were open chairs at 10 AM at both the upper and lower ones.

When we were there the last two weeks of October, I never saw this policy being enforced. To make matters worse, the upper pool was closed for the duration of our trip so there was already a significant shortage of chairs. Most chairs were gone by 9am and I observed many being 'saved' with nobody present for hours. Some people never showed up at all. The only way for late risers to find an open chair was when an area that had been in the shade suddenly had sun.
