I finalized my reservation yesterday to Scrubs Island hotel next January. The woman at reservations informed me that there will be a $25 per person per day resort fee. That's $350 for the week besides the points for a Cat. 8 certificate.

How often do you run into these fees?

I have not been to this resort mentioned, but I have encountered many resorts who charge some amount for resort amenities. I think this is a trend we are seeing in the industry in general.

Its a way for the resort to re-capture revenues for maintenance items that may have been previously under-budgeted or not considered.

Also resort fees are sometimes used for transportation, parking, and general facility upgrades.

I am seeing this more and more. They can advertise their room rate cheaper and get you with the resort fee. Plus the resort fee can change easily. Many of the full service resorts now charge this. I.E. the JW in Scottsdale - same thing. Resort fee $25 per day. OUCH!

But I have never seen it charged per person. For me it has always been per room.

I talked to several agents about this reservation but only one of the agents mentioned the fee. When I go to through the reservation process online to check the price per day there is no note of a resort fee in the daily rate. Considering the daily rate is $719 I probably should be glad to get it for $350 for the week. I hope the amenities are stupendous :D

$719 is cheap - the 4 bedroom villa goes for $5,000.00 / night but you can get some serious MR points by staying :D

I just booked a week at Marriott's Hotel in Wailea, Maui, for a week in 2013. I used points to pay for the week (a lot of points). And at the end of the confirmation process, I got dinged for $30 a day resort fee - that is not covered with the massive amount of points I used to stay there. Cash only.

We just spent at week at this resort (also paid for with points that I've been collecting for 30 years), and there was no resort fee.

This is really a ripoff. Pretty soon there will be pillow fees and fees to use the bathroom.

Remember when parking used to be free, everywhere? Just another way to get revenue.
