Reservation Walking issue

I think it happens when you grab the last available unit in the type you book, the system doesn't see the remaining days of your unit. It's always had this problem.

Interesting. That implies that the OV and OF walks had additional units available so didn't have the error but, after booking, they are no longer available for that day. That would mean that whomever is also walking those, did it about the same time.

On a related note, I still don't understand how the attached availability happens (one of the reason why I abandoned my walk). If home weeks are Sat to Sat, how could Sat 6/29 and Sun 6/30 be booked, but the remainder of the week available? Only home weeks should be able to be booked at that point.

Check-in days for HW are Friday, Saturday, or Sunday so it just depends. We have all three but most of ours are Saturdays which is why Saturday's get booked out. Not sure why those two days are booked out. Often times, during club season, it is common since reservations overlap on weekends such as a reservation going from a weekday into the weekend and then starting on the weekend but, the picture that you shared, is during HW time...so it does seem odd. It seems like if the Sat and Sun are all booked out, then the rest of the week should be also. It is the weekend prior to July 4th so maybe something else took them. I am walking those weeks right now.

Isn't home week specific to the resort? My Elara is Friday and my others are Saturday. I thought Ocean Oak only had Saturday home weeks.

If you're trying to walk to the 4th of July, what's your plan when you get to the 29th?

Actually, I don't know their HW check in days but I do know that some properties have multiple check in days. We have a mix of Saturday and Sunday at Craig. Our Blvds are Fridays but others have Saturdays.

I will walk to the gap and then wait. That happened last year and then they filled later... And I got them. In the process of doing that, I got an OF and ended up with 5 weeks.

I really don't understand why any company would want to drive calls to a call center to do things that they could do online. Hilton has that issue for their HH free nights too. No idea why they want to annoy their members with bad connections, trying to specify out dates etc over the phone, AND pay call center workers. At this point, I think it has to be to try and discourage use of the rewards or just incompetence.

I'm still confused about the best way to walk a reservation and how early to start.

For example - here is the availability for a 3 bedroom at Lagoon Tower, their HW check-in is on Saturday.

Can I conclude that the 3BP unit is likely booked with HW reservations as 6/22 is not available and is outside the availability window (which ends on 6/21)?

Can I conclude that someone is walking a reservation for the 3PL unit?

I have been casually looking at this for a few weeks now and there has been zero availability for this 3PL unit. With a unit that seems to never show any availability, how is it possible to walk a reservation?

The starting time just depends on the property. For instance, some that are in-demand but maybe not really in-demand, like OO is in the summer, then you can probably start trying to book the first 3 days, a few days before or maybe exactly at the 276 day window. For high demand location with limited rooms like OO, then you need to start much earlier...for instance, I started walking rooms there the first week in June and will walk through July 4th...if they are available. There are some caveats to this though. One is that the availability needs to run through the whole time period that you are walking and another is to understand that a gap may come while you are walking and you are stuck. On the other hand, if there is a gap down the road, it may fill in so you just keep watching. For example, we have 2 rooms at OO for spring break. We like to check in on Friday and out on Sunday but one of the reservations was not available on the Friday and the other on the Sunday so I booked what I could in both and then waited. Both eventually became available so I added a Friday to be beginning of the one and a Sunday to the end of the other.

Other properties that are less demand may not need to be walked but you can just to be safe. I have done that also. I will just grab the first 3 days that they are available in the week that we want and walk it for the week...just to be safe.

In your example, it looks like folks are walking the 3PL. Keep an eye on the 3BP though. It could be that a HW took the night of the 21st but when it is getting to the night of the 25th (really booking at midnight of the 24th day), you can book 22nd to 25th, then start walking, if you are trying to get to dates further down the line.

When you see a straight line down the page at the 276 day mark, like below, then it means they are being walked. If you look at that same property tomorrow, that whole line will, probably, have moved to the 22nd.

To add a data point, I have been walking a reservation successfully for a week and a half for Maui on iOS. Never even tried the computer website.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread (zombie!), but I'm getting this error:
Invalid Payment Type
but ONLY when trying to CHANGE an existing reservation to book something in NYC.

If I book "fresh" it works fine.

I'm on the phone with Hilton now, and they say due to system stuff, can only CANCEL and book again.
Hopefully they can do this and waive the booking fees.

Had to press for the waiver of the booking fees, which, IMO, seems ridiculous! Plus I lost the points protection from the previous reservation. And they cannot waive the $99 cancellation protection

ugh....that is painful. I have noticed other walking issues since last year and had to call CS to add a day so this doesn't surprise me.

Were you inside the 60 day cancellation window? Booking window for non-owners in NYC is very short.

Yes, otherwise the Hilton website will gray them out and say "outside booking window".

The rep kept saying "it's a different function" and that's why the system wouldn't let me do it (wouldn't let her do it either). So if you are CHANGING a non-NY resort to get *into* a NY resort (regardless of window, etc.) you CANNOT do it. You must cancel your existing reservation and book NY as "new".

Now, whether or not you can book a NY resort and then change it, I don't know.

I could book directly, the same resort without issue, but not change my non-NY into the NY one.

Yeah...I ran into this. I also had a problem where I couldn't change my NYC reservation that was 63 days out to one that was less than 60 days at the same resort. I had to call HGVC and the CSR cancelled my old one and made a new ressie (at no charge).
