Semi-newby question. We are taking over a contract from my in-laws (they got in over their heads). We have used their account for a while now and I see the contract has FINALLY dropped off their account. Is there anywhere on the website that shows how many reservation transactions you have available? We will have 364000 points which gives us 4.73 reservation transactions. Will they round up or down?

Round DOWN.

And RT is good for the business day .. plan smartly and you will be okay.

The HKs are expensive as they are for each stay -- same for 1 night as for 7 nights ... did the account drop VIP levels ... as if you were grandfather as GOLD and dropped below 400,000K (which is what you seen to be saying), you MIGHT not be VIP as the new level is 400K in direct points brought.

77K get 1 RT.

Go through the motions of making a guest reservation and it will show how many guest certificates are remaining. Then cancel the before confirming.

Thanks everyone. We were hoping to be grandfathered in as silver but they are saying only 259000 pts were prior to 2012 and it would have to be 300000. We're still kind of hoping for an oversight to put us into silver (the contract is not totally transferred yet). One can dream right? This forum has been a tremendous help to us learning the ins and outs. Can't wait to get my hands on those points and start planning for next year.

Is it too late to change the way you are doing this? I would recommend you add your names but keep your in-laws on the contract. This will give you access to the account and points (and VIP status) as it stays in the account, you won't need guest confirmations for your own travel, and you can pay the maintenance fees associated to your contract to your in-laws. You'll also not have to worry about RTs, HKs, and paying the CWP minimum twice (on 2 separate accounts).

Understand your in-laws may want it totally out of their name, but it sure would help you if you did it the way I'm talking about.

Yes, my in laws just wanted to wash their hands of the whole thing. It got a little complex. They had several different contracts. The largest one they got some money back through Wyndham's pathways program. My bil was able to sell another one. My in laws are keeping one smaller deeded contract and the contract we are taking still had a balance due, at a ridiculous interest rate, which we paid off. Ours is a CWA points account. I'm not all that worried about the vip thing. It's just dh and I so the points are adequate and we usually travel at off peak times also the mf is about what we are comfortable with. So all is good. Sorry if I'm babbling. Love this site though!

Saying you are not worried about the VIP status and taking a contract that was not paid off shows how little you know about Wyndham. Those things cannot be changed now but I would encourage you to keep learning here and elsewhere. No need to make anymore costly mistakes.

The cost was a very small factor in our decision. Wyndham had totally sucked them in and ovations was not an option when we first started the process. This was a financial rescue mission for my in-laws. They were in way over their heads between payment on debt and mf. We really had no idea. The other siblings were slightly more aware of it. Believe me, we went in eyes wide open. Figured it was something we can use because of the way we travel and we are fine with it. Debt had to be paid off regardless. Someone might as well get some use from it right? BTW, balance due was just under $5000 so just less than 1.5¢ per point. Not too terrible right?

Terrible. But it is water under the bridge now. Make the best of it. Also reminds your in laws you did them a favor and not the other way around no matter how many great vacations you go on.

Not really terrible in today's market. A recent CWA went for almost 2 cents a point on ebay. And since this was a bit of a rescue, it should be viewed as such. However, it should be possible to keep the "developer status" on this contract since it is going directly to someone in the immediate family. You'll want to preserve that status. If you do some research you'll see there is a fair amount of value to having VIP status. Even at the silver level but especially at gold and platinum.

It would have been great if you had found us a little earlier before the account was blown up, but sounds like that's already done.

My in-laws are very well aware we did them a huge favor. They did get about $17,000 from the pathways program. Peanuts compared to what they paid I'm sure but better than we could have sold it for for sure. The fact that they had several different contracts also complicated things. Only one contract qualified for pathways. I have never had the courage to ask what they spent to begin with. I would probably end up in the ER with a heart attack. If we really want their last contract we could probably have it, but I don't want to end up buried under mf's in 30 yrs either. We'll stick with what we know we can afford. Yes the points will maintain developer status.

Follow-up

Just a quick follow-up. Wyndham is full of surprises! First of all our transfer has been completed. They received our paperwork on July 13th so that is an earth shattering 3 1/2 weeks. The only thing not set up as yet is our RCI account. They said that may take another week to 10 days.
Second - they did give us silver VIP status - :cheer:
Third - as far as my original question as to reservation transactions - they did round UP and give us 5 annual transactions for our 364,000 points not 4 as we had kind of expected.

Now I just have to avoid all those owner updates and we are good to go!!

Thanks for all your help.
