I own 2 weeks at Marriott Newport Coast Villas. I bought them both resale last year. Tried booking consecutive weeks for next July both at 13 months and now 12 months. Even calling exactly at 9:00 AM ET. No availability. No matter how I dice it. I cannot get them to line up with the other weeks I booked w/points.

My question is……because they are resale, will Marriott let me convert them to Bonvoy Points? I know I cannot convert them to Destination Points. Other than depositing them into II or putting them on Market Place for rent…… I don’ think I have any other choices. Do I?

You cannot convert to Bonvoy Points.

Use them, rent them, or deposit them are your options.

Platinum season at NCV is VERY competitive and very difficult to book for the most popular July weeks. Since platinum season at NCV is so long but the summer months are by far the most popular.

That said I am a bit surprised there was nothing at all for any check-in date right at 9AM EST in either window. A whole bunch of people would have had to be faster than you, it is a big resort. Did you try online at 12-months or just call? Was it a long hold time when you called?

If your week is not tied up with another reservation (not usually the case for me), you may have better luck booking online at 12 months out. Assuming the website doesn't crash that day...

While cannot be proved, in my opinion inventory availability at some resorts has gotten worse since the points system was implemented in 2010.

I've owned Marriott for 10+ years and know the importance to call at 9:00am. I'm also pretty good at being punctual. But I consistently encounter issues of not getting my desired week when calling at 12 months out or not getting a desired check in date even when booking some weeks at 14+ months out...

And sometimes the inventory person just messes up. I was told no availability for any checkin day for an event week when trying to book at 13+ months out... Since that's clearly impossible if you own an event week, I had to get a supervisor who got back to me a few hours later and told me someone forgot to release those weeks. They seem to keep a tight reign on a lot of things. Crazy...

I realize the summer weeks are crazy. I knew that going in. My points reservations were a piece of cake. Got 1 month there easily. But honest I called both at 13 and 12 months EXACTLY 6:00 AM ( my time) I too find it very hard to believe. Someone told me there is a trick to getting the weeks at 14 months by booking 2 weeks at other home resorts and then piggy backing the time at NCV on as consecutive ongoing weeks, then going back and cancelling the 2 weeks at the “other “ home resorts. In my case… Sabal Palms, Waihohi, and KBC. Im so damn confused by this though!

We just booked 5 reservations with points last night for June and July but with pts. There seemed to be a good amount of inventory but I know they are different pools

Just making sure you realize to call at 9AM exactly 12 months before the first reservation day for the week- meaning if it's a resort with Friday/Sat?Sun arrivals, even if you want to book for a Sat. or Sunday you need to base it on Friday's date. Sorry if I'm being redundant, but people have been confused about this in the past.

Another suggestion. If you add one or two Marriott traders (purchased resale) such as a Marriott Grand Chateau, 2 or 3 bedroom that you reserve at the 13 month window and in consecutive weeks that line up with the Newport Coast weeks that you want. You could then reserve the Newport Coast villas at 13 months plus week 3 or 4 (depends on how many units you have so that the reservations are consecutive weeks). Then deposit the Grand Chateau into Interval. I have used this strategy in Maui for the last 10 years And it has always worked.

Good luck.

Do you mind cutting and pasting what the instructions say?

you enter your desired check in date and you will see when you can book

Prime "points" reservations for OceanWatch were particularly tough to get this year. I'm not new to this and was prompt "online at 9:00 am" at both 13 and 12 months out. I got 1 of the six I needed for a reunion with points. I'm ok though as I bought resales there as a hedge against the points system over the past few years. The reunion is on but only because of my owned weeks.

The points system is fine if you can make it work and it does work well for lower demand resorts. The old K-Mart "blue light specials" will always be available for points.

My advice - buy good properties you really like and will use in the resale market.

Yes, I'm surprised so many people here mention calling. Isn't it far faster to make the reservation online? Seems like calling a live person would put you at a big disadvantage.

For deeded week owners who are able to book at 13 months because it is 2 or more weeks concurrent or consecutive, you must call.

Don’t you have to call to book early using consecutive 2 weeks?
Yes, if booking 2 or more consecutive or concurrent weeks with your weeks at 13 months out you can still only do this by phone.
Allowing this to be done online would be my number one enhancement to the system (apart from it consistently working, of course!)
You can do this online with your points and I do, which is one of the benefits in using points.

Exactly. You have to call a person who is entering your reservation online. Why not just cut out the middle man. This isn't advanced website design here to make that happen.

Thank you for that. I sold my weeks and do not have an existing log in. I was wondering if you could cut and past the instructions or tell us the "rule of thumb", so to speak. If one wants to book their week 12 months in advance either Fri/Sat/Sun, what specific day does the inventory open up online? Is it midnight EST on the Tuesday before the Fri/Sat/Sun that is 12 months before the desired check in date?

Same thing for 13 month reservations?

Just to keep things interesting, every MVC resort has its own individual "when can I reserve" schedule. There is considerable overlap, but I can tell you that for Newport Coast the first day to reserve Sat July 25th at 13 months was Tuesday June 25th and at 12 months was Thursday July 25th (all MVC windows open at 9AM). And that 13 month reservations can only be booked by calling.

That said, Newport Coast is a special case because at that resort July 4th week (Week 26) is a Platinum Plus fixed week and cannot be reserved using normal Platinum Week deeds. Because of the high desirability of July (since for the most part it is past the 'June Gloom' of the California Coast) some people buy a fixed July 4th deed and one or more Platinum deeds so they can then reserve the following weeks at 13 months.

I am guessing that one of your problems might be that Newport Coast has only 2 seasons, so if July is the prime time to go to Newport Coast then half of all of the deeded week owners may be calling or going on line to try and reserve that week/weeks. I own two prime weeks on HHI and I am only competing with owners of the weeks in part of June, July and part of August, so not as many people can call for those weeks. I looked at buying NC but was told by someone on TUG that it is very difficult to get weeks in the summer because of the number of owners, so I decided to buy HHI. Good luck in reserving a good week.

I suspect the bigger issue is the Plus week. If I wanted mid summer there I would want to own at least one Plus week there.

I think the only variables to reserving weeks that are potentially reservable for that ownership are the start day of that week for a given resort and holidays they follow assuming no maintenance that causes them to be closed. Some resorts start the week on Thursday and some have a fixed check in day of the week which can potentially change the day one calls to reserve.

There are a few quirks but generally, the first day to reserve for any check in day of the week is the first check in day for the week, 12 or 13 months ahead at 9am eastern. If one wants to book 12 months in advance for Fri or Sat or Sun and there is also a Thurs. check-in day that week, you need to call on that Thursday 12 months before to reserve a check in on Fri or Sat or Sun.

Not sure why you mentioned Tuesday.

If I'm reading your post as intended, that is incorrect. It's 12 or 13 months ahead from the first day of check in for the week by the date. For example, check in to MGO next 28 June you call on Tuesday May 28th or Thursday June 27. The reasons is because it would have been Monday for 13 months out but that's a holiday. You are not tied to calling on the same day of the week.
