Below are some excerpts from several e-mails I had with a Marriott resale salesman on resale weeks eligible to be enrolled in the DC.

“The weeks that are brokered through Marriott Vacation Club International as resale weeks are eligible to be enrolled into the new Destinations Points program with a further purchase of 2,500 points within a year or making a purchase of a resale week.

I do have select inventory that does not require an additional purchase of points and may be enrolled for the enrollment fees that are currently being charged.

At this time I can only enroll Evergreen and Aruba Ocean club without an additional purchase of 2,500 points.

This is the Evergreen building in Vail. It is a Special season week in a 2 Bed 2 Bath. The cost of the week is $4,000 it is worth 1,750 Destination points. It’s a fantastic value to be able to have 3,500 points for $8,000 or 5,250 for $12,000.

To enroll a single week is $595 multiple weeks $695, these prices are all subject to change.”

So that would be $2.29/point buy in, and assuming mf approx $1200 makes it $0.66/ point. Not a great mf value, but cheap to get in.

That is interesting -- I think we'll see more of this in the future (what I've enlarged) -- currently they are applying it to resale weeks purchased directly from them, but I think they will one day apply it to all post June 20, 2010 resales. Starwood does this, where you can enroll (they call it requalify) your week if you purchase a week directly from them (sometimes I've seen $20K, sometimes $40K as the purchase requirement).

These Marriott resales may be justifiable if you're buying a week that you could also want to use also (like if you found a Timber Lodge in there).

Thanks for posting this!

Best,

Greg

Unfortunately I think even if they had the Timber Lodge week I wanted, the mark up would make it non-practical. Based on other listings I figure an annual platinum 2-bed would go for $20K-$22k. Having to pay $25K on top of that within a year to be eligible to enroll the week is simply ridiculous. I think I've given up on trying to figure out how to get into the DC. It would be cheaper for me to buy an EOY Timber Lodge and EOY Willow Ridge, maybe even an annual Willow Ridge to trade.
