Dude!

My boss (aka wife) just put my SVO plans on ice. She's feeling it's too risky given our business expansion plans. Bummer. I had to pass on a 52K OFD. I'll have to revisit this when our expansion is turning a profit. Meanwhile, thanks to all of you for all your help, and I will continue to learn on TUG.

Wow! Talk about an about face! What would you have done if you were too far along in escrow????

Does this mean you aren't buying anything at all?

About Face

Yeah, talk about a 180! If we were too far along in escrow, my wife probably would have made me lose my deposit and cancel. It's because I was leaning toward expanding my business, but she wasn't. But once I talked her into the business expansion, the TS thing was OUT. I think we would be all right with the expansion and doing this if we had a $200K business LOC, but she preferred to have a larger cash savings cushion.

So we won't be buying anything for the time being. :(

Certainly better to bail now with no regrets than to overextend yourself and regret it later.

I daresay you'll be able to find similar, or better, deals if and when you decide to purchase a timeshare. And there's always rentals, esp from TUG owners. :)

Good luck on your business expansion.

I'm OK with it. I'll be too busy with work to play much this year or next, anyway. :) But I was VERY sad to let this one go. I'm sure you're right, and as DavidnRobin said, timeshares are like trains, there's always another one coming (I think somewhere along those lines).

Thanks for the wishes.

Food for thought: Although Westin has a nice product, you pay an arm and two legs for the brand name. There are some nice timeshares out there for much less.

In the last 6 mos. I have purchased 2 ocean front units on Kauai on ebay - one for $1,300 and one for $1,500. You don't have to spend your kids inheritance to buy a nice timeshare. Do a little homework on ebay and you'll see what I mean.

You can have your cake and eat it too.

Hiatus... down, but not out!

Thanks for the alternate options, guys, but at this point I'm planning on just waiting until my business is profitable, then continue my SVO plans. With my new business duties, I won't have time to vacation, anyway. :)

Sure, it's hard to justify $30-50K for WKORV vs. $1.5K for another TS (is it really 20-30 TIMES better?), but at this point, I'm willing to pay more for a really first-class resort. In terms of value, it is a better value than the Ritz-Carlton Club ($300-700K for 1/12 fractional ownership, 3-4 wks), at least, so I could do worse. :)

But I'll still hang around, try to learn more, digest more, and formulate a less rushed, better thought out TS portfolio plan.
