I went through the timeshare (huge mistake) and was quoted 122k points for 18k...yada yada yada...I got roped into doing the Wyndham Discovery thing for 2900...going to send in the rescind letter tomorrow. The whole experience made me bitter about timeshare ownership.

I usually take my time when making a purchase. I decided to look at some resale sites and made some inquiries to some owners looking to sell their points.

I then received a call from a Timeshare Broker and we spoke for about 30 minutes and I am starting to rethink timeshares and am considering a resale. He has a deal for 231000 points for a little over $3k and an $87/month maintenance fee. Based on what I have researched, that number of points would suit me and my family well.

I am wondering two things:

1. Does this seem like a good deal?
2. Should I expect maintenance fees to get to a point where they are not manageable? (ie. $300/month)

Thank you!

You could probably get a cheaper price on eBay. Generally, expect MF to double every ten years.

Double???

Hold crud. They would be $1044 this year and $2088 in 10 years and $4176 in 20 years. Is it really worth it then???

A double every ten years would be 7.2% a year.. In my experience thats high

If I had to budget that far ahead I think Id figure on a double every 20 years

The actual number isnt that important to me, As long as my timeshares stay cheaper than a comparable vacation home rental they are a bargain If I cant afford them Ill just have to stay home.
