Resale and Max

We just returned from a sales pitch. We have points bought direct from HGVC and bought an extra deed in order to get into the Max program. We are thinking of buying resale. The sales person told us that these points would not be available to use in the Max program which I believe is true. However, she then said that we would have to use the resale points completely separately from any other points that we have as our developer points are now in the Max system. Therefore, we will have two separate accounts - one with the developer points and one with the resale points. That is, we couldn't add the resale points to our developer points even if we were just looking at HGVC original properties and not the Max additional properties. Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks.

I still have not figured out why an HGVC Member would buy MAX. To get the leftovers in DRI (now HGV)? You would have better luck using II or RCI and at lower cost.

Completely agree with @geist1223

The sales person told us that these points would not be available to use in the Max program which I believe is true.

Thanks.

Were the salesperson's lips moving?

Not much is written in stone on MAX, but over on the HGVC forum within TUG the word is that once your account is in MAX all of your HGVC points can be used there.

It has been confirmed by TUGers that buying MAX puts your previous resales into MAX, it is also generally believed/expected/likely that if you buy additional resale and the points are added to your account they can be spent within MAX.

The only real downside to buying HGVC resale is the resale purchases do not count toward MAX tiers or elite status. And those benefits are not perceived as being worth paying full retail prices.

When Hilton was first putting out information about MAX they said that previously purchased resell HGVC could be used in MAX (once you made the expensive buy in) but that resell HGVC purchased after "X" date would not be usable in MAX. I am not going to go back in re-read and the threads to point this out.

Thank you everyone, I will post in the hgvc site - new to tugbbs. We really want to find someone that bought resale AFTER joining max and seeing whether they can combine their developer points with resale to stay in just hgvc properties (not max). All our points are in the hgvc max website (we haven’t bought resale yet) - We were told you can’t now combine new resale with our regular points because they will be in two completely different accounts.

I answered this in the other thread in the HGVC forum - my post-Max resale purchases are eligible to use in Max but don't count towards Max Tier status.

As for why anyone would ever buy to get from being an HGVC resale owner to being in Max, I agree that Max itself isn't much of a motivation. It wasn't worth it to me, but I decided to upgrade a couple of gold bHC weeks to a unicorn that gets me bHC points for about the same cost as Boulevard club points. YMMV.
