Request: Help with Rental Cell Phones in UK

I will be traveling to England next week, and would like know what the best way is to get a cell phone to use while I am there.

My US cell phone is CDMA, not compatible withe the GSM standard used in Europe.

There are several folks in our group, and we would like to be able to reach each other, and probably have 2 or 3 phones amongst us. Would not be used very often for calls back to the US.

I was looking to see if there are places there that will rent a phone for a two week period. What are the rates? What to look for, or avoid?
