Hello, I'm new to this so please bear with me. I own a 2 bedroom lock out (Gold season) at the Grande Vista and am looking to use my lockout next year, and rent out my 1 bedroom unit. Do I need to deposit the unit before renting it on my own, or do I try to rent it and then hope to get the week if it's avalable? I hope I'm not confusing everyone. Any help would be appreciated.:)

Don't deposit the week with II. Offer the week for rent, you can either make a high demand reservation or let the renter pick the week they want and then hope you can still get that week.

However, I think the effort will far outwiegh any income you will receive from the rental. 1BR are easy to find and are cheap II getaways. Many people travel with large groups/families to Orlando, so demand for a 1BR will be small and you will likely not find any renters or will get next to nothing for it. My advice would be just to reserve a good week and deposit it with II and save it for a later exchange. You can probably get a decent exchange and even upgrade to a larger unit back in to Orlando.

Book it during the big demand weeks and maybe your chance of renting will increase, i.e. Xmas Week, School Vacation Weeks, Spring Break Week, and July 4th Week.

As others have said, Orlando is fully overbuilt and there's usually a lot of inventory to pick from.

The problem is that it is a gold week. The best weeks are Memorial Week and Thanksgiving. These have average demand in II and getaways for these weeks are usually easy to pick up fairly cheap. 2BR platinum MKL weeks are going for $429 as getaways right now. I picked one up for 2009.
