Hi, guys! I am in need of a second villa in June but do not have enough points to make it happen. Is renting club access points common? It seems super efficient in my mind vs scouring resort based rental posts or confirmed reservations. Also, is there a standard rate per 1,000 or $10,000 or whatever the case may be?

Where are you trying to book? If you can hold out to 90 days out you can borrow from a future use year.

Depending on where and when you are booking, this might be ideal

Thanks for suggestion. I’m looking for Edisto in June. I anticipate little availability at 90 days given probable reduction of inventory.

You can rent directly from Wyndham at $12/1000. I'm not sure how close to checkin you need to be to have that option (it shows up automatically during the booking process). It's a funny term (IMO). They say rent points but you are really buying one time use points from them. They are refunded back to the credit card you pay for them with at the time of booking if you were later to still see availability at a time you can borrow as @Floridaman76 suggested. You'll automatically see the option to rent if you are out of points, and it's a possible option for you. Same rules would apply as points you own - you can't overlap so hopefully you have another owner on your account (or you'll need to use a guest confirmation).

Depending on the unit/section you wanted at Edisto, June may have been tough at 90 days.

With the uncertainty of the 2 sections closing, it complicates things.

You can rent points, but there are limitations, like this far out I don't think you can rent the whole stay, but rather can just rent to complete the last night. I have only rented a time or two in my entire time I have owned and it was just a few thousand points to complete the last night, so i'm not totally current on the rules, but I do know there are limitations on how much you can rent and in what timeframe.

It may be worth renting, if you can now, then trying to book at 90 days by borrowing points. You can cancel your rental booking and get a full refund.

If you mean from another owner: you can't transfer points between owners (that ended maybe 15 years ago or longer now). You can get another owner to book it for you with a guest certificate, but you'll want to find another owner who is reasonable and trustworthy.
This is route I was thinking…finding a trustworthy owner is my sticking point. I forgot about renting points directly from Wyndham. Thanks for you help, guys!

Getting closer! I found a fellow TUGer offering 70,000 points for rent in the marketplace. $10 per 1,000 is rate. Not enough for my needs, but tells me there is a chance!

But you can't combine those with your own points. They would need to make a separate reservation for you and add a guest certificate.
