Those of you who know me, know that I have posted many times that renting of II weeks is prohibited.

Yesterday I had II wrongly accuse me of renting weeks on EBAY and do to the suspicion my account was locked. I had gotten a message on the II website to call Customer Service which I did.

I was told that my account was under review for the selling of exchanged weeks on EBAY. I explained that I have never done that but never the less I was told that I would hear back from II in 2-3 days regarding the issue.

Now that I was annoyed at the accusation I tried getting to the department that handles those issues but had no luck getting to them. I took a shot and emailed Craig Urbine who many of you know used to be an II supervisor who was on the Ask II board. He had helped me in the past when he was with II so I thought he might still have a contact.

He got right back to me with a contact and within a couple hours after calling the VP in that department, my account was unlocked and many apologies accepted. Thanks to Craig I didnt have to wait a couple days for a resolution.

Apparently there was an EBAY auction that was for the same unit/dates as one I have confirmed and the seller was also from NY. An overzealous manager looking for members with the same unit/dates from NY then locked my account assuming it was me before actually looking into it further. I have been told the person who did this will be spoken to about it.

I just wanted to let TUG members know that II is indeed actively looking for those that rent exchanges.

Glad that everything worked out fot you! Funny how you were found guilty, even before confronting you with the ebay ad.

I find it interesting that if you search on ebay travel for guest certificate there are lots of ads that come up and state that a guest certificate will be put in the buyers name. I would think if II was actively looking for rentors, they could keep numerous folks busy tracking them down.

I think it is more likely that someone reported the ad to II because it was a high end week like a Hawaii Marriott, DVC, Hyatt etc. There is a yahoo group that I belong to that several persons actively look for ads which appear to be rentals and report them to II.

Care to share the resort?

Motivation?

What is the motivation of these people (other than that they seem to have lot of spare time).

Did they say how many OTHER II member accounts they 'locked' - that is REALLY not a good way to do business!
People can list whatever state and address they want on their ebay accounts - and I would think if someone WAS renting exchanges they would be smart enough to try and disguise their identity  .

Sorry this happened to you.

It was taken care of pretty quickly by II once I spoke to a supervisor. I think there was more to it than I was actually told. I was furious with II for not notifying me by phone before locking my account but within a short time of speaking to a supervisor everything was back to normal.

Many people who rent exchanges have no idea that they are not permitted to do so.

Yet another II flub. # 10,978 for this week

Typical II. Shoot (self in foot) ask questions later. One phone call, which we KNOW they are irritatingly capable of doing would have saved a headache. But no. You have to reach an ex-employee to find out how to reach someone who can undo what never should have been done! And this is a "service" you pay for and defend? Any questions why II is not a member friendly organization?

Renting II and RCI Weeks

RCI actively checks rental sites and Ebay for exchanges for rent.

People who try to rent exchanged weeks put themselves in jeopardy of loosing their membership in RCI or II.

During 14 years of II membership I have had very few problems and the ones that I have had were fixed quickly. There is no other company that can come close to providing the quality of the exchanges that I have gotten year after year.

Your tired of them? You've only been a member for a month. What about those of us who have been reading his posts for years? :D Seriously, you know his opinion, which he is entitled too, just skip by the posts if you don't want to read them. Personally, I find some of them so over top that they are humorous. :hysterical:

Dave, I am with you on that! John is so funny. :) I really am laughing out loud over here sometimes. I think much of what he says is tongue-in-cheek. What a nice guy he is, and he has helped so many people. I have so much respect for him.

Everyone is entitled to his/ her own opinion about any subject. For me, it is "don't buy in Orlando," and I have hurt some feelings over the years, I think.

Don't want to be cited for poor performance? Improve!

I'm an equal opportunity blaster (its not bashing when it true). Go back and look at the history of RCI Renting posts from a couple years back if they are still around. Along with others I'm no friend to RCI when they screw things up. I don't think those posts still exist and thats a reason you see things repeated. New questions are posted OR old answers drop off. Any company can stop being blasted by simply cleaning up their act. Most, including me, are happy to acknowledge when things change for the better or a correction is made. So far the company in question just keeps adding to a litany of poor performance rather than taking positive steps to improve things. So warnings are needed to the uninformed. Skip them if you already know about it.

I can imagine a couple of reasons.

Some folks believe that renting activity significantly reduces exchange availability for "regular members". In effect, you make those weeks available to more people if renting is allowed, and that increases demand for them.

In other cases, it is owners at the "rented" resorts that get huffy. For example, a few DVC owners really don't like it when someone can get into their very expensive resort for dimes on the dollar---particularly when there is an active direct rental market. In this case, the existence of exchange rentals is thought to undercut the direct rental prices.

I suspect that in both cases the material impact is pretty small if not negligible, but to each their own.

John's posts on II keep it interesting. (I'm a big II fan by the way). Just think how boring it would get without him. :)

I also enjoy his posts about DVC. He would probably start a war over on the Dis DVC boards, though (laughter).

Apology to John Chase

Well I must have crossed the line since my post was deleted. Thought I might be when I posted it. I'm glad to hear you are an equal opportunity basher! I thought you were just being vindictive toward II. I just renewed my 2nd year membership to II, used them to purchase two getaways. Have never exchanged with them and probably won't, so I'm probably not in a position to judge. Maybe from now on I can read your posts without tunnel vision. Sorry, and I hope you will accept my apology.

Hey, if you enjoy what he has to say about I-I & DVC, just see what happens when you get him rolling on ROFR -- also WestGate.

BTW, add me to the list of timeos2 fans. Most of what I know about timeshares & timesharing I know I learned from him -- & over several years of vicarious acquaintance with him (all via Internet & mostly via TUG-BBS) I practically feel like I know him -- even though we have never met face to face nor ever spoken over the phone.

One of these days maybe our paths will cross at Cypress Pointe Resort At Lake Buena Vista -- & if Cafe Pointe is up & running by then, I'll gladly buy him a StarBux latte or Greenberry's espresso.
Everyone is entitled to his/ her own opinion about any subject.

Totally true. People are all entitled to their own opinions -- but they are not entitled to their own facts. As it happens, just about all rants & warnings & advisories by timeos2 are fact-based.

Has anyone rented an exchange on redweek?

Has anyone actually rented an exchange on Redweek and what were the ramifications, if any?
