Once the reservation is put in the renters name, do they become eligible to buy vacation insurance through MVC? Figure with the possibility of a Super El Niño this year that it might be good to know for anyone renting an Jul-Sep reservation if they are going to a known are where hurricanes are known to happen. I know there are other insurers but it would be nice to know if MVC offered it. Thanks

MVC's insurance only covers the owner and aside from a few incidentals mainly provides recovery of the MFs paid for a vacation using that year's points and/or weeks. They would have to look into some other insurance provider.

I thought I read that El Niño is supposed to suppress hurricane activity in the Atlantic.
Exactly. The hurricane season is generally mild during Nino years.

True. But, tell that to the SC residents that got hit by Hurricane Joaquin during the last time we had one in 2015. I will just suggest my renters CYA.

Historic Regional Flooding: The Super El Niño pattern helped funnel deep tropical moisture into the Southeastern United States. As Joaquin stalled, it interacted with a stalled non-tropical front along the coast, triggering catastrophic, 1,000-year flooding in South Carolina”
