I am wondering if there are rental cabanas or other options for shade at Marriott Ko Olina. If so, how would I book this?

There were plenty of umbrellas and chairs at the lagoon beach when we went. We didn't ask anyone if we could use them and nobody said we couldn't so I think it is part of the resort. I don't remember any cabanas.

We were just there, and they do have rental cabanas. I think calling it a cabana is a stretch, though. They are a pair of wooden loungers connected with a small table in the center, and a pull up back that provides shade. They were $30 for a half day, and $60 for the full day, but with a full day you get a $20 credit at Longboards. In theory, the umbrellas are also rented. They are just regular beach umbrellas, with a lounge chair. We didn't rent either, and I am not sure how much they police them. I am guessing you can rent by calling the resort.

Yep just looked at the flyer in elevator. $60 for full day and get a $20 longboard credit. Full day cabana rentals are 8am to 5pm or 9am to 5pm. Will check for sure when I get back tonight.

For renting cabana.

I was there two weeks ago. The process is
1. Reserve your cabana by TEXT 24 hours before.
2. Show up at the cabana hut by 9 AM to select your cabana.
3. They will give you white beach towel and bottled water with your rental and $20 Longboard credit.

Here are a couple of tips:

T1. If you are owner, you also get a 5% discount. They will ask if you are owner, if not, just tell them.
T2. If you want a specific cabana, like the cabana on the grass which is very popular or the front cabana closes to the shore; you should get in line by 8:30am. Yes I know its' not what anyone wants to do on vacation, get up early and get in line. Often the cabana hut opens before 9am.
T3. Sunscreen and relax.

Do you have to be an owner at Koolina specifically or a Marriott timeshare owner(if you are there on an exchange)?

Any guest staying at MKO can pay to reserve a cabana or covered beach lounger.
