My point was this:
- you sign up for a 'special' privilege that allows you fast access to customs (no comments on the effectiveness here...)
- you agree to a number of special rules and have an interview
- you travel internationally, complete the customs declaration and attempt to clear customs
- you fail customs because you have an apple
- because you forgot
- because you didn't know despite all the reading and signing etc....
- because you didn't want to waste food
- because you think it's stupid
- because you're too busy to pay attention
- because you're above the other peons that don't have GE
- because......you didn't think you'd get caught
So, to this point, I have no problem with the whole issue. People make mistakes. S**t happens.
You get caught, you pay the price. You get fined.
Now, the problem starts (for me):
- You blame the airline for giving you a nice piece of fruit to enjoy with your meal
- You blame the airline for not taking the fruit away, searching your bag or whatever you thought they should do
- You think that NO-ONE should ever get fruit again on Delta because you made a mistake (or intentionally cheated)
- You blame CBP for catching you.
- You blame CBP for fining you
- You blame CBP for not letting you 'get away with it'
- You blame ANYONE and ANYTHING except yourself.
- You cause BIG problems for anyone that follows you
- You don't care about other people or their problems
I think that sums it up for me.
Now, in the interest of good karma....I hope that I never forget food or other items and get caught passing customs.
But, if I do, dear sweet Jesus, please give me the grace not make a national spectacle of myself, please?
IMHO.
