Hi All,

If I wanted to split our 2bdrm lock-off and stay on one side for a week and the other side for 3 days, what is the best approach to making that reservation? Do I have to wait until I'm 90 days out to book the last three days?

Gracias!

Is this for WKORV, and do you own an OV or OF unit? If so, then book the one side at 12 mos. for a week and wait until 90 days out to book the other 3 days. That way you'll guarantee your view category for the first week. (I'd probably book the second half the following week after making the first at 12 mos. and then cancel that when making the 3 day reservation at 90 days out--unless you need those Staroptions for another trip).

If you want to make sure you don't have to move, and are willing to sacrifice your view category, you could just book the 10 days at 8 mos. out. (Again, I'd book the two halves at 12 mos out consecutively and then cancel as needed).

Hi Rocky - Why don't you stay in the 1 bdm for 10 days instead?

I think Glorian's idea is a good one, but I'm thinking that there is a way to book all 10 days at once...I think someone posted about it...let me see if I can find it...

*Rocky - I can't find it, but I'm thinking there is a way to do it at 12 mos. When you call and make the Resv., ask if you can add 3 days to it using Staroptions. Hopefully, someone who's done it will post.

Is this the thread you're looking for??? http://www.tugbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=82839&highlight=months

From MSC.com, I think this is the relevant verbiage:

"When you use StarOptions you may:

Reserve a week (or more), beginning on an established check-in day, at your Home Resort (or any Starwood Vacation Network resort) in a different Villa type and/or Season than you own. You may request reservations beginning 8 months prior to your desired arrival date, during the Starwood Vacation Network Float Period. Vacations for more than 7 days must begin or end on an established check-in day."

I called Westin Reservations and spoke to a very nice and knowledgeable rep. She said the best way to do this is to:

a) Call exactly 12 months prior to arrival date and book the first side; let's say it's the studio side. Then ask the reservationist to put in a request to book the 2nd week automatically so that you don't need to call back a week later to reserve the the 1 bdrm side. This will be done automatically prior to 9am, so your timestamp should be excellent.

b) At 90 days out, call back and ask the Reservationist to drop x days off the 2nd week. It's important that you tell her that you want it to be done "through inventory" so that she doesn't cancel the original reservation and re-book it, thus losing your initial timestamp and view. Most reservationists will know to do this, but bring it up just in case.

This means that you won't be able to use the StarOptions for the excessive days until 90 days prior to your trip, but this is the only way to secure your view and original timestamp, so plan accordingly. She said that the only way to book a trip other than whole weeks in your home resort is to wait until the 8 month window opens up, and then you'd lose your view and timestamp. So if you paid for an upgraded view, it's very important to put in the reservation during the home resort priority period. If you wait til 90 days out to add those 3 or 4 days, you'll lose your view.

Hope this helps!
