My question is why an owner renting a timeshare should trust Redweek.

Doesn't anyone remember how Redweek permitted renters to cancel reservations contrary to rental agreements, refunded rents to renters, and didn't bother to consult the owners? Yes, the pandemic was a black swan event, but it shows whose side Redweek will take in the event of a dispute.
The trust does go both ways of course but apparently enough owners trust them as there are a lot of protected rentals out there. I think Redweek's biggest concern in that situation was chargeback. Too many chargebacks could have resulted in monetary losses as well as the possibility of losing their merchant account. Right or wrong.

I also understand that Redweek updated their contract for renters as a result of the pandemic to limit refunds.

According to @MOXJO7282 in post #49, most renters know to change the sort order.
Yes and we all know I am the renowned expert on the matter so it must be so. But seriously, the antidotal evidence I present I would contend is as good as any, if not better. My opinion is based on actual substantial data over a sustained period of time where I recorded every year when I would rent a given resort, most often the same week, every year. I honestly thought I would need to pay the extra fees so initially did pay just the V for $10 because i hated seeing my listings all the way down. I realized quickly, at least for the resorts and weeks I was renting, V&P didn't secure me more money or a quicker rental. So i stopped a paying very quickly in the program and I still rented in the same timely fashion. With that said I would use it from time to time if there were numerous listings for my week but very sparingly and again over literally probably 400-500 rentals on RW I don't see the advantage to using V&P under most circumstances. That is just my .02 but I am an expert so don't try this at home.

I don't think it's just a matter of V&P owners "trusting Redweek," I also think that many owners who pay for V&P don't know how to rent their reservations themselves, or simply don't want to bother with it. Which are both valid reasons to use V&P.

Moxo,
You are not an expert. I'm quite fastidious about titles like that after 41 years of military and police service. In the PD some years I was an expert in marksmanship and some years I only managed sharpshooter. For some years I was a distinguished expert. At all times they issued you a little device to pin next to your badge ton denote what you were regarded as. If you were an expert last year and a sharpshooter this year you had to surrender your expert pin and suffer the indignity of being labeled sharpshooter for a whole year.

It seems the gods of TUG have not awarded you a status level yet so you can't claim to be an expert. Don't be discouraged. I still enjoy your posts even with your lack of official status.

BTW, what does MOXO stand for?

Exactly why i don't let anyone control the receipt of money and hold it. Surprisingly over 100s of rentals I've only had a few cancellations and those are based on my cancellation policy and not anyone else's.

My wife derisively calls me the timeshare king when I babble on about my TS exploits so I'm used to the lack of appreciation. But then when she is enjoying the view on one of our many oceanfront balconies she says, "you did already kid". That's good enough for me.
