Redweek better than Interval

I own two Marriott Aruba Timeshares, one is a Platinum Season, 2 bedroom at the Surf Club and the other a 1 bedroom Gold season at the Ocean Club. I have on a few occasions deposited a week that I was unable to use into Interval with no success ever redeeming that deposit for a comparable week in Aruba in return. What I have done successfully is this. I book my week at my Marriott home resort (Surf or Ocean Club) and receive the confirmation number and then rent that week through Redweek at a reasonable rate that covers my Marriott maintenance fees. This eliminates all the frustrations with Intervals redemption system . You can then use that money to rent a week from other owners that post their weeks on Redweek. If you decide to rent through Redweek , look into the premium service option and they will mark your posting as Verified and will process the payment transaction between you and the renter eliminating any worry of fraud. If you own a two bedroom lock-off villa like I do at the Surf Club, you could request that Marriott break the full villa two separate reservations . This allows you to rent both weeks as an option for even more money.

I would think twice about using Redweek for renting your week in Aruba. They haven't be to helpful supporting owners during this coronavirus mess. I personally have had great success using ebay to rent my weeks.

Redweek acts as the intermediary between the person renting out their week and the buyer . If you use the premium service for a small fee then Redweek takes the payment for you and places the funds into an escrow account. You get paid once the renter checks into your timeshare. If they cancel at the last minute you still get paid . You determine the terms from the beginning on your Redweek posting. Does eBay have a similar program that prevents fraud by protecting both parties? I would consider renting through eBay if they do. Thank’s for your response. As far as helping during this Covid19 situation, I think there is little anyone can do. Marriott was not helpful but JetBlue did give me a credit when my flight was cancelled due to the Aruba shutdown.

Redweek stole my money. I rented out my week using Redweek "verified and protected" service with a strict no-refunds policy. Redweek then held renter's payment in "escrow". Then when Covid hit, Redweek actively encouraged renters to dispute the payment. When renters clicked that dispute button as instructed by Redweek, Redweek automatically cancelled all rentals during Covid and refunded non-refundable money to renters, regardless of circumstances. Redweek refunded the payment to the renter without even trying to contact me. I lost Redweek fees, lost the week, and lost the rental money which was now my family's only remaining income to pay bills.

Even without the payment problems, while using redweek to rent rather than depositing might have been better other years, travel this year isn't like other years and renting out to someone when the whole travel industry is so disruptive may not pan out like other years.

I didn’t know that Redweek did this to you and others. Some of my posts were in reference to Redweek before Covid-19 . I feel that what they did to you is unacceptable. Maybe it’s time for me to reconsider using Redweek in the future.

RedWeek was wrong for what they did, jumped the gun you might say, but a total one sided decision was horrible.
they have also changed the contract including this c19 business to travel at your own risk. Day late and a dollar short. We all need to adapt.

RedWeek is one of the safest avenues to rent just be in control of your rental here on out and bypass the full service or using RedWeeks escrow.

Arubaguy, you can ask JetBlue for a cash (or credit card) refund. You don’t have to accept the travel bank credit. They quickly provided such a refund to us for our cancelled Turks & Caicos trip ( suppose to be there now ).

All my rentals on Redweek (18) were cancelled between March and May with 100% refund to the renter. Redweek gave me a credit for the posting fees and have used to post multiple Full Service listings for future rentals. I don't want to deal with renters and continue willing to pay for their service of managing the posting, contract, receipt and disbursement of funds. I'm not renting as a business only as a way to manage my portfolio of Marriott points until I retire.

Everyone loses with COVID-19...……………….

18 rentals NOT a business? What are you going to do with all of those now? Can you sell any II certificates (I presume MVC converted some of the closer cancellations to the II restricted certs)?
Yes, many losers due to Covid-19!

In order to list your timeshare for rent on Ebay they do verify that you own either the fixed week that you want to rent or that you have ownership if points membership with a timeshare company. I've been renting my weeks on Ebay with no problems and not accepting any returns. I get paid when the customer makes the reservation and don't have to wait months to get paid through a 3rd party company. Over the years I have several repeat customers that I deal directly with and don't rely on Ebay much for rentals anymore.

I agree with Tank... I've had great success using Redweek for rentals (pre-COVID 19). But, I learned early on not to use their full-service. I prefer having control over my rentals. I did have a cancellation at my Four Seasons Aviara, and I chose to give a full refund. But, it was MY choice. I'll have to check out eBay, it might be even better!

If your resort is closed, I think that clause is in the contract, that a resort closure makes the contract void. But if your resort was not closed, and airlines are still flying to that location, then I think it was wrong of Redweek to cancel.

You can deposit your weeks into II and use them later on for an exchange. I do feel that the online inventory is poor with II, however. You will likely get something not even close to worthy of what you gave up.

All reservations were booked using Marriott Destination points and are now into a 120 holding account good until Dec. 2021. Using many of the points now as I live and work from the Marriott Ko Olina Beach Club (34 days and counting) until I can return to my overseas work location. I don't expect that to happen until at least June.

I asked Redweek who escrows the renter's funds, and as far as I can tell, they just hold the funds themselves. That makes me uncomfortable.

RedWeek will (...if they are not ruined by the fallout from their recent bad decisions and arbitrary, unacceptable actions) remain a good platform to advertise and / or find timeshare rentals. That being said, I would never (before or after COVID-19) allow RedWeek to be involved in my timeshare affairs in any way other than being a Internet platform on which to find or place ads. YMMV.

You are not allowed to "sell" II certificates or as rentals.

You should be able to pretty easily exchange into an Aruba week via II. Were you depositing your week <60 days in advance? If so that might be the challenge as inventory can be quite restrictive in that method.
