Recording RCA tapes after we go digital

I am told that in order to record from a digital broadcast, I will need an analog box to do so on an old RCA. Does that make sense? If so, I guess I have to buy the coupon backed convertor box.

If your VCR is analog (which it likely is) you will need a digital converter box to convert the digital TV signal to analog so your VCR can record it.

This is only if you receive over the air (OTA) broadcasts. If you have cable or satellite, their set top boxes will likely still put out a signal you can use a vcr to record from: eiher RF (which you'd record off channel 3/4), or composite, which you'd use the A/V inputs.
