Recommendation for a light weight vacuum

I've tried several uprights over the years, including two Dyson's. I just don't like them. They are too awkward and heavy. I love my lightweight Miele canister vacuum except for one thing. In order to make it light weight one of the things they cut back on is the length of the cord. I have to change to other outlets more often than I'd like but it beats a painful back!
You need to look for a Dyson that says lightweight on it...

We do have the lightweight cordless Dyson for quick pickups but it wouldn't do the job of a whole room well and I rarely use it.

Couple people I know have had an Oreck and they have been happy, seemed light weight when I tried theirs

We had an Oreck for several years and it is light weight. Except for having to find bags for it, I really liked it until we somehow vacuumed up something smelly. Don’t know what it was but after that we never could get the smell out of the vacuum. We did everything we could think of but every time we ran it, it would release that smell. Finally bought the Dyson and fell in love with it.

I do not buy the cordless one. We use the upright lightweight one and it picks up everything that the commercial ones used by cleaning companies do not.

Thanks! I'm just going to stick with my Miele lightweight canister. I've never liked using uprights. I can't put my finger on it but they seem to hurt my back more, even the cordless Dyson which is lightweight. Good information to know though for others looking and for me to keep in mind.
