Good:
Source Code

Not so Good (teens may like it, I thought there were too many cliches and didn't like one scene that was too sexy for a PG 13):
Red Riding Hood

Good if you like Nova or Animal Planet type documentaries - may be too realistic for small kids:
African Cats

Unsure:
Hannah (kind of like Salt - run, run, run, and run some more). Strange.

DH and I went to see "Water for Elephants" the other day. We both enjoyed it. DH also got a little teary-eyed.

I want to see "Jane Eyre." My DD is in town for a week so we will be going if we can find a theater still showing it.

DH and I also liked "Source Code" although as I thought about the movie afterwards, there were just too many holes. Don't think about it. Just enjoy it for entertainment's sake.

Source Code: I liked it quite a bit.

Rango: An animated western with a lizard as the star! What's not to like? It's a bit predictable but still entertaining.

The Tourist: I think this is just a matter of personal taste. I found it absurd and predictable - not great for a "thriller."

Insidious: This seems to have faded from the theatres fairly quickly. I didn't think it was as scary as the reviews claimed, but it was still good.

Movies watched recently...

Loved - Town, Next Three Days

I'm going to give a second vote to Next Three Days. We had a family movie night last Friday, and everyone loved it... had a great time!

Hope I'm not breaking any rules here... :)

Brothers: Excellent rental if you can get it. Stars Toby McGuire of Spiderman fame and Jake Gylenhall. Toby plays a captain in the marines who goes to Aghanistan and is shot down. Jake plays his sketchy just out of prison brother who "takes care" of Toby's young wife and family in Toby's place. Great acting, great story. Very realistic and definitely not a melodrama. It was originally released in 09 or 10.

Ben Affleck was in Town and Russel Crowe in 3 Days... 3 Days is a good family movie - Everybody was trying to make predictions throughout, and everyone was wrong!

Edit: by family movie, I meant older kids and just a fun movie to watch together. our kids are college age.

:)

Town is probably more of a guy type movie... reminded me of Italian Job in a way. Both are on DVD.

After 40+ years of T/S ownership, I am no longer "an owner"
We saw The King's Speech this past weekend. We really enjoyed it. Good acting, very believable depiction of historical events.

Salt... Angelina Jolie's Rusian spy movie was decent.

Expendables... ADRIAN, ADRIAN, yo Rocko, wrong movie. Action show with all of the action stars like Stalone, Schwartaneger, Lei, Rork, Anderson and a bunch of others. OK I guess. Maybe so so.

Ung Bak Muay Thai warrior. All 3 of them are great. Lots of fighting.

Anything with Jackie Chan. The last movies were "The Spy Next Door" and "The Karate Kid" seen with grandkids.

Thank you for this suggestion. It was available on Netflix Instant, and I started it last night. Great movie so far!

NOT GOOD: I saw a movie on an AA flight last week. I don't know the name. It had Ben Affleck, Tommy Lee Jones, and Craig T Nelson. It was the biggest downer movie I've ever seen. About people getting laid off and their lives being destroyed.

Excellent movie: Oranges and Sunshine

I saw it today, interesting but heart-breaking story. Just released in the UK and the Cohen media group has just acquired the rights for its release in the US, so it should be released there later this year.

If you managed to get a copy in the US of the book Empty Cradles by Margaret Humphreys, this is the film.

Pirates of the Caribbean - about what you'd expect; lots of sword fights, lots of adventure, lots of funny parts. Not what I'd call a great movie (i.e., it's not one of the best movies ever), but certainly entertaining.

We rented it on BluRay this past weekend too. It was excellent!

One of the benefits of getting it on disc is the extras. Very good interview with Logue's grandson. Plus recordings of two of George VI's actual speeches. The first is an audio recording of the 1939 radio broadcast that's featured in the film. The timing, pace, and hesitations in the speech have been reproduced remarkably well by Colin Firth in the film. The second speech on the 'extras' for the DVD is the speech that George VI gave just after V-E Day in 1945. This was an actual video recording of a televised speech. In this one, his pacing is greatly improved. You can hardly tell he has a speech impediment at all.

Yep, excellent film. I heartily recommend renting this one.

The Little Fockers was TERRIBLE. I actually enjoyed the first movie and the 2nd was ok. This last one was bad. Really bad. I can't imagine what they were thinking - there's even a scene with dialog that makes absolutely no sense what so ever that shows just how little effort was put into making this movie.

Thank goodness it was a $1 rental - and then free due to coupons.

Bridesmaids

Really, really funny. I guess it's technically a chick flick, but my hubby laughed through the whole thing.

Also, if you want a cute movie, Paul was really entertaining.

I also liked Bridesmaids - - laugh out loud funny, and it put a feminist spin on the standard guys'-night-out movies.

But don't see it if dirty talk and sexual themes will make you uncomfortable.
