Hi all, we have occasionally (last year for first time In fact) needed to have something sent to us while away for a longer stay. This was not a problem then and I was a bit surprised when we recently got a pre-arrival email from Marriott Oceanwatch stating that as of last November 1st they have changed their policy and will no longer be able to accept personail mail and packages. (They did offer alternatives.) I do understand this since its a very large resort but I was wondering if anyone had received similar news from other MVC resorts. If so, it might be good to know in advance of a stay and maybe compile a list of resorts that do not allow personal package receipts. We are heading to Hilton Head (various resorts) after our stay at MOW and wondered if this policy applied anywhere on the island for those Marriott resorts. TIA for any info provided!

Another alternative may be to receive mail at the Post Office in the city or town where the timeshare is located. You would have to have it addressed in c/o General Delivery.

Obviously you would have to show identification and pick it up yourself in person.

Yes, thanks - we are looking into this as well…This was more about a one-off, occasional need to get a package delivered while away and wondering which resorts allow for this and which dont. When we needed to do so last year (cant remember where frankly) we just asked at front desk if it was allowed there and I guess we could do that again if needed. We were just a bit surprised to see that OceanWatch specifically disallowed, but again it makes sense for a larger resort. My guess, it was getting out of hand or rather harder to manage there…

I did this years ago and it was a real headache. Not worth it IMHO. Too many unknowns and I spent more time fussing with it than it was worth.

one year my mail went to the dead letter office a full week of it an I never saw my mail again. the dead letter office puts you mail in. aGAINT SHREEDER an SHREDDERS MY MAIL HAD A Address on it the uspsdoes not care about your mail

I have done this at several resorts in the past including at Newport Coast in December. Never had any issue with them accepting the package and me picking it up from the front desk.

Locations in mountain towns can be challenging because postal delivery works differently up there. I've had mail and packages returned at some locations including Mountainside in Park City and the Sheraton in Steamboat Springs, even after using the address they provide. For Amazon packages, I find a local offsite hub where you can pick up your package from a locker...Whole Foods is one example.

Packages are available for pickup in the lobby or delivery to your villa by our Safety & Security team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

All incoming packages over 1 pound will incur a handling fee based on the item’s weight (See below).

Package Handling Fees

0 – 1.0 lbs = No Charge

1.1– 25 lbs = $5.00

25.1 – 50 lbs = $15.00

50.1 – 100 lbs = $25.00

Over 100.1 lbs = $50.00

Crate or Pallet = $150.00

Handling fees will be applied as a room charge upon the package’s arrival if a credit card has been placed on file.

Yes, that was our experience as well, the one time we needed to do it last year (either HHI or FLA I believe).

Last summer we had our mail delivered to our resort [Ritz Tahoe].
It was via UPS Overnight and it was delivered to our room by the front-desk.
We informed the front-desk to lookout for the mail as it was very important documents [passports] that we needed to travel to Mexico.

I've had things delivered several times but not lately. With UPS my Choice Premium you can control where it is delivered. Possibly to a UPS Store. If you haven't, I'd call the resort(s).

We've had packages delivered to a number of resorts. If it is an Amazon order, we usually use a lock box somewhere or pickup at Whole Foods is another option. Sheraton Vistana Villages charges $10 per package. They charges us one time but not another. Grand Chateau was $5 on two different occasions. Cypress Harbour was great. No charge and we even had a package delivered after our departure that we went back to pick up. We have also redirect packages via UPS online account and paid the fee to do so. I don't always trust it 100% as we have paid to reroute but it was still delivered to our home. While we don't pay anything we used the service because we didn't want the package sitting at our door while we were away.

I find it strange that OceanWatch simply won't accept packages anymore.

Usually, something happens to cause a change like that. I'm going to guess that somebody's package containing something valuable went astray – pilfered by somebody, maybe – and somebody in resort management or MVC decided that they weren't interested in having the liability of receiving packages any more. Of course, we will likely never know what the event was that triggered the change. But I can certainly see that there is liability in accepting packages for guests.

I own apartment buildings, and several years ago, my properties all stopped accepting packages for residents. With the growth in online shopping, it just became too difficult logistically and too much liability. If a package goes missing but the carrier says it was delivered, suddenly the property may be liable. It doesn't surprise me that timeshare resorts are reaching the same conclusion, unfortunate though it is.

Can tenants still get packages delivered to their door?

Yes, absolutely. But that way, the liability is on the tenant or the delivery company, and not on the property owner, because the package was never under the property owner's control or care.

Delivery drivers don’t like it because it’s a lot easier for them to drop off a pile of packages and let us figure it out, but we no longer give them that option.
