Rcv'd upgrade w/effeciency; what about 1BR?

OK, here's my question. We have only exchanged our effeciency once since purchasing (Ko Olina). We traded for Canyon Villas and when we checked in to CV, we were upgraded to a 1BR. Naturally, we were very pleased.

I'm wondering if this works in reverse. Is there ever an upgrade at your home resort when you return to use the 1BR? In other words, do they ever let you have the full villa, even though you traded the efficiency? Wishful thinking I suppose................

Cyndy,
when you got the confirmation from II , what was the code used for Accommodations.
This information is on the II web site under your exchange history .
Reason I ask is that the 4 letter code tells you if the unit you traded for was a studio or a 1 bdr unit.
I don't think that the Marriott normally upgrades exchanges, because they don't own the week used.

I know of it happening but very rarely do they upgrade members in terms of villa size or view owned. They don't want people to get the idea they can buy lower and use higher. I think it is a little more likely with an exchange to a lower season. But it never hurts to ask and if you plan to ask, I'd do so as part of your requests.

If I understand the question, the answer is no. You traded a very nice Hawaii eff unit for which II has no problem giving you a one bdrm, and in some cases a 2bdrm. I once traded my Aruba Surf eff for a 2 bdrm Fours Seasons Aviara, in Dec '04.

However, I have never seen Marriott upgrade the remaining 1bdrm at your home resort to a 2bdrm.

Now you can trade that remaining 1bdrm back into the resort, and maybe get an off-season 2 BDRM at your resort, but that would involve a trade through II, and loss of owner status, meaning you get an exchange room.

Regards.

Thanks for the info. I figured I was wishful thinking that they might upgrade us when we go next month. I suppose I could always ask and see if we could rent out the effeciency side. I appreciate everyone's replies. :)

We used our lockoff (Shadow Ridge Gold) for a 2 bed Platinum at Shadow Ridge and then used the 1 bed to get a 2 bed Platinum at Canyon Villas.

I have traded an OP Silver 1BR into a Platinum 2BR. However, although it was a "platinum" week, it was a shoulder week - the checkout day was 24 Dec that year. That was worth the $80 for the exchange even though it was back into my home resort.

I was also able to use another 1BR silver to trade back into OP for a Silver 2BR.

In both of these, I found the trade online - i.e., I did not use a request but did a search on the II website.
